The New Fishing Shrimp Truck Trying Out Midtown

A new seafood truck popped up in Midtown yesterday called the Fishing Shrimp truck. They are serving various iterations of basic fried seafood dishes like Fish & Chips, Shrimp baskets, and combo platters out of a cutesy blue fishy themed truck. While it’s unclear if they will be parking in midtown on a regular basis (as always, keep an eye on the Twitter Tracker), there seemed to be a steady stream of people checking it out at its 48th + Park location. A look at the menu is after the jump…

Contributor Stalking (The “Unlimited Tacos” edition)

Tacombi at Fonda Nolita
Blondie’s first round of tacos at Tacombi.

Blondie scored two hours of unlimited tacos at Tacombi in Nolita, Brownie is in the mood for holiday baking, Donny had an Italian dinner at Piccoli in Windsor Terrace, Brian asks readers what’s the best beer in and around New York, Chris points out some of South Korea’s must eats, Rachel is sending dispatches from her trip to Honolulu, where she’s eating well, and I watched San Francisco butcher, Ryan Farr taking apart a lamb.

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Andrea checks out the bar lunch at The Growler in FiDi, Jamie’s guest contributor John had fried chicken at a doughnut shop in Philly and Zach found a $9 all you can eat banchan buffet at Manna in Downtown LA.

50% off Sullivan Street Bakery: It's a bit of a hike to make it out to Sullivan Street Bakery (on 47th btw. 10+11th) from  the heart of Midtown, but completely worth it... and here's an extra bit of incentive.  Today's Google Offer gets you $10 worth of food from Sullivan Street Bakery for just $5.

Nominations Are Now Open For The 2011 Midtown Lunch Reader’s Poll

Next week polls will open for the 2011 Midtown Lunch Reader’s Poll, but before we open the individual categories up for a vote we want to get your nominees. Have a favorite lunch spot you think needs to be highlighted? A best burger? Favorite cup of coffee? Maybe it’s a particular sandwich from a food truck? Let us know in the comments. Include as many or few nominees as you like, and we’ll take them all into consideration when we put together the finalists for each of the polls. And most importantly… if you don’t nominate anybody, you can’t bitch!

Oriental Noodle Shop Redeems Itself with an Oxtail Special

Oriental Noodle Shop Last time when I was at Oriental Noodle Shop waiting for my order of wonton noodle soup (which turned out to be quite horrible), I noticed a sign by the door displaying their lunch specials. At the very bottom of the board it said “oxtail with rice or noodles for $8.95.” After eating their wonton noodle soup I really had low low low expectations but I can’t say no to oxtail!

PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Christine”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Christine, a food show assistant who wishes she worked in Seoul.

Name: Christine

Age: 22

Occupation: Edit Assistant for a food show, food blogger on the side

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Smack dab in the 30s–an area most lacking in awesome food trucks

Favorite Kind of Food: Dumplings, truffles (both the sweet and savory kinds), peanut butter and jellies, brunch food, anything Korean, bacon, shakeshack burgers, macarons, Ippudo ramen, roasted brussels sprouts, Momofuku pork buns. Any meal involving a combination of the above would make me exceedingly full and happy. It’s hard to believe that I was a vegetarian just a year ago.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Thanksgiving leftovers, Ethiopian injera, lackluster salads with far too little topping. Just say no.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Cafe Zaiya (on 41st btw. Mad+5th) for Japanese comfort food (I may or may not have inhaled a curry pan for breakfast), Nanoosh (on Mad btw. 33+34th) for organic hummus made in-house, Ktown’s Food Gallery 32, Mandoo Bar, E-mo Kimbap, and Woorijip for cheap and delicious eats, currently the Flex donuts pop-up at Zocalo in Grand Central (who says dessert isn’t lunch…), Num Pang (on 41st btw. Lex+3rd) for “Vietnamese” “Cambodian” sandwiches, also the awesome selection of food vendors at Bryant Park/Columbus Circle Xmas Market.

Stick to the Chicken at BonChon Turtle Bay

Back in August, we announced the opening of a brand new Bon Chon location in Turtle Bay, but never got around to a full review. Since I’ve never been to Bon Chon (criminal, I know), I decided it was most definitely time for me to venture over.  Korean fried chicken places can get a bit expensive if you aren’t careful, but there are four lunch specials on the menu that all clock in at under $10: BonChon Chicken Lunch, LaFrieda Korean Bulgogi Burger + Frite, Balsamic House Salad, and BonChon Marinated Chicken Fried Rice.
