File This Under Great Ideas: Wafels & Dinges’ Elvis Waffle

DSC00014

Elvis Aaron Presley’s legacy lives on in all things flavored with peanut butter, bacon, and bananas and now that legacy extends to waffles. Wafels & Dinges is now offering an Elvis special waffle ($7)–their bacon Brussels waffle topped with peanut butter and bananas (someone needs to tell them that if they truly want to do an Elvis, they should be topping their concoction with honey.) A picture of the Elvis waffle in it’s glory after the jump.

At Lunch Now: My $6 Lunch at Peter’s Since 1969

I just went to Peter’s Since 1969 to score my half off lunch. Got the 1/4 chicken (dark meat) with collard greens, corn with jalapenos and the corn muffin. Everything was ok. The food is all very simple, some might even call it bland. I could see jalapenos in the corn but there was no heat and their horsey sauce lacked any bite whatsoever. I also got a homemade Arnold Palmer which was actually pretty fantastic. Not too sweet which is usually my problem with them. With 50% off, my whole meal was $6. Oh, and if you go make sure you mention Midtown Lunch to get the deal.  You have until 4pm…

Peter’s Since 1969, 587 9th Ave (btw. 42+43rd), 212-868-0600

PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Nick”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week we’re excited to profiled Nick, aka Lunch’er “Hightemp” who has tipped us off to a bunch of good stuff over the past few months.  We figured it’s time he got his moment in the spotlight…

Name: Nick

Age: 32

Occupation: Patent Attorney (and amateur mixologist)

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Across from Bloomingdale’s (so technically “out-of-bounds” in Midtown North)

Favorite Kind of Food: I love all kinds of food, but if I had to choose I would say French Bistro or good ol’ fashioned American (both Modern American and Comfort Food American)

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Frozen meals of any kind – but particularly ones that feature “shrimp”

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: The Siciliano and the Wednesday Fresh Crab Sandwich at Macaron Cafe (on 59th btw. Park+Mad); Chicken Enchiladas (Half Green/Half Mole) at El Rey Del Sabor (on 60th and 3rd); Goodburger; BBQ Brisket sandwich at Daisy May’s (on 50th btw. 6+7th); Spicy Pork at Pro Hot Korean (on 56th btw. 5+6th); Jerk Chicken at Jamaican Dutchy (on 51st and 7th); General Tso’s Chicken at New Hong Wong (on 59th btw. 2+3rd); Eggplant Parmigiana and Italian Wedding Bakers at Pizza by Cer Te (on 56th btw. Park+Lex); Double Soul Food Mix from Hallo Berlin; for snacks – Sweet Potato Fries and a Shake Shot at BRGR (on 61st and 3rd); Ham & Cheese Scone at Alice’s Tea Cup (I know that one is waaaay out of bounds) and for dessert – Medium Smooth Plain Wild Thing (with Honey, Bananas and Cinnamon Toast Crunch) at Berrywild and anything from Miss Softee but particularly the “Fried Ice Cream” (which may or may not have been a request by a certain someone profiled here)

Half Off Peter’s Since 1969 Today from Noon to 4pm: Curious about the newly open Peter's Since 1969, but haven't trekked over to 9th Ave. (btw. 42+43rd) yet? This should help motivate you... today from Noon to 4pm, Midtown Lunch'ers get 50% off their meal. We haven't tried it yet either, but those dutch ovens looked pretty enticing! Check out the menu here.

Grill & Noodle is a Solid Addition to Midtown’s Cart Scene

A couple of weeks ago, a new cart called Grill & Noodle popped up on 50th btw. 6+7. The cart has an old school no-frills appearance and an odd Chinese/Japanese hybrid menu that ranges from lo mein to teppanyaki. That kind of identity crisis is often a bad sign. I found myself walking by the cart the other day and figured I might as well give a shot, especially when I noticed the mysterious Casanova steak.

More on Mai Sushi: Sarah D. from Fork in the Road hit up Mai Sushi the other day (the Chiyoda Sushi replacement on 41st btw. Mad+5th) and not only thinks the sushi is better than Whole Foods but declares "if I worked in the neighborhood, I'd definitely make it part of my lunch rotation."  Done and done.  She particularly liked the curry fried spanish mackerel.

Gust Organics Cart Brings Solar Powered Argentinian Food to 53rd Street

Lunch’er “Peter” checked in yesterday to let us know about a brand new cart parked on 53rd btw. Park+Madison…

“Saw (and tried) this new cart today. Pretty tasty (I got the Tapito Box – chicken) and an empanada. Not sure of the name, but the guy said it is Argentinian food.”

According to Crain’s the cart is actually an offshoot of Gust Organics, a restaurant on E. 14th Street. And, not only is all the food organic but apparently the refrigeration is powered by a solar panel. How sustainable!

Check out a close up of the menu, after the jump.

Tokyo 11 Offering 15% off through September

_MG_1630 - Version 2

Back in the spring, Luncher ‘Steve” spotted the opening of Tokyo 11 just out of ML bounds (sort of in Flatiron Lunch bounds) on 31st and Lexington. We haven’t checked it out yet, but passing by this week, I noticed that they’re offering 15% off of the whole menu through the end of the month.

Financier Patisserie Coming Soon to 59th

Lunch’er “Hightemp” checked in this morning to let us know that Financier Patisserie will soon be opening a small shop on 59th Street and 3rd Ave. “Its a somewhat isolated/non-obvious location (it used to be a tassel store) [but] between Macaron Cafe at 59 & Madison, Sprinkles Cupcakes opening (in February) at 60th and Lex and now Financier we’ve got a little dessert/pastry renaissance happening up here.” This will be the fourth Financier to open in Midtown in the past two years. (There’s one in Grand Central, one on 48th underneath the FoxNews Building, one on 1st Ave. and 54th, and now this one.)

50% Off Tasti D: As a general rule Midtown Lunch tends to be anti-frozen yogurt (especially the "healthy" aka tasteless kind) but here's one for all you closeted Tasti D fans.  This daily deal gets you $10 worth of Tasti D for just $5 at the location on Madison Ave. and 37th Street.
