Green Wasabi is the Newest Ramen Disappointment in Town

Green Wasabi just opened this week, replacing Delicatessen with Japanese bento boxes, sushi, and ramen. Eager to find out how the ramen stacks up, I ran over and was surprised with the lunch time crowd. I waited patiently to try 2 of the 4 ramens offered; the tonkotsu and the shio.

Munchie’s Cafe For Deli Food with a Twist

The random signs on the windows of Munchie’s Cafe letting me know hot sandwiches are right inside  appealed to my hunger. Munchie’s, a deli on Chestnut street, has a slew of breakfast, lunch, and snack selections. Some are the standard you would expect from a deli, and others are a little different, ranging from french toast dipped in Captain Crunch to kielbasa.

From Hamburgers to Wonton Soup and Banh Mi at the Simply Yummy Truck

A year ago, the ladies behind the Simply Yummy truck at Temple University stuck to the traditional campus staples- hamburgers, cheesesteaks, fries, etc. Then they started offering  occasional Asian inspired specials that quickly became popular. That menu expanded from an occasional wonton soup, to an official section of the menu including  grilled lemongrass chicken and pork either over rice or in banh mi.

Pho 75, Pho in Love

Last week I told you guys about my last meal before Passover, as big Italian sandwich from Sarcone’s. I needed some serious carbs to break the week of no “chamatz” (bread products, including noodles).  It looks like I  make a habit out of ending Passover with Asian noodles; 2 years ago I broke with Nan Zhou and this year Pho 75 fit the bill.

Pho 75 is located at the corner of a Viet shopping plaza on Washington Avenue. Whereas Pho Hoa has a book for a menu, Pho 75 has a single page and its pho only. Pho, things to put in your pho, and drinks, nothing else.  But unlike Pho Hoa, Pho 75 nails their one menu item.

Ramen Battle: Ramen Boy vs. Yakitori Boy

I checked out the soft opening of Ramen Boy this weekend, and though you can’t eat there today (closed Mondays) I am hoping my thoughts can help you decide whether you want to rush out there tomorrow.

The opening of Ramen Boy is kind of a big deal because Philly and ramen are not that well acquainted. The brand new space is small and decorated to look authentically Japanese. Seats are backless but have a little shelf for your belongings underneath. For now, it is BYO.  The menu is small; 4 ramens, gyozas and a handful of other appetizers, 2 rice platters, and dessert.

When the owners of Yakitori Boy announced that they would be opening a ramen restaurant, I thought I would get a preview by trying the ramen already found on Yakitori Boy’s menu.

After the jump; Yakitori Boy’s ramen vs. Ramen Boy’s ramen… is the ramen- focused restaurant’s version superior?

Pot Pie Soup and Sandwiches at Bill’s Breakfast and Lunch

Bill’s is a laid back luncheonette sort of hidden on Sansom street.  They serve breakfast and lunch during the week. Expect a slew of inexpensive sandwiches and some salads. There are a few tables to sit at, but they fill up during lunch time, so take out may have to happen. Bill also makes a different soup fresh every morning. I started with that.

The Capital Grille Launches Their “Plates” Lunch This Week, Including Lobster Rolls Under $20

This week I was invited by The Capital Grille to try out their new $18 plates menu. Spoiler: the lobster roll was a good enough value that it was worth sharing despite the over $10 price tag.

The new $18 lunch at Capital Grille offers an entree with a side and a soup or salad. You still get the same Capital Grille experience, complete with crumber bearing waiters and portraits of mustachioed gentleman. Each course was brought out quickly; The Grille could easily keep its promise of getting you in and out in under 45 minutes if you ask.
