First Look: Dough Re Mi Brings Every Kind Of Grilled Cheese You Can Imagine

Do you like fancy grilled cheese sandwiches? Too tired of waiting for Gorilla Cheese or Milk Truck to make their stops in the Financial District?

Dough Re Mi, which opened last week on Water St. (btw. Broad & Coenties Slip), will make your cheese and bread dreams come true. The only thing that may give you pause, as it sometimes does at the trucks devoted to grilled cheese, is that you can spend $10 on a single small sandwich.  Read more »

The Smorgasburg Vendors Are The Best New Lunch Option In The FiDi

seaport vendors

The South Street Seaport has never been particularly hip, unless you consider clipper ships the hot new thing. There were some reliable lunch spots there though that have been sorely missed since hurricane Sandy decimated the area. A few places that were on higher ground have reopened, but the area is still largely a work in progress.

The other day I had some extra time on my hands and headed over. The lure was the 10 Smorgasburg vendors that have set up stands on Front St.through October, alongside a bar in a shipping container.  Read more »

Need More Giant Sandwiches In Your Life? Diso’s Italian Sandwich Society’s On It

diso's truck

While walking back from lunch yesterday, I spotted a new truck called Diso’s Italian Sandwich Society at William St. & Wall. It does not appear that it’s on the Midtown radar yet, but a look at their Twitter shows that they’ve been parking in the Financial District for a week or so. A look at the menu shows a wide variety of sandwiches with Italian meats, chicken or vegetables, although unless you get a half you’re going to spend more than $10.

Did anyone check this truck out yesterday?

Lunch’er Deep Reports: Shorty’s Makes A Good First Impression

shorty's

If you’re not sick of big, meaty sandwiches for lunch, then you may like to know that Shorty’s opened its shop selling Philly cheesesteaks among other things on Pearl St. between Coenties Slip & Broad earlier this week. This is another branch of the purveyor’s shop and bar in Midtown, and they also have a food truck that I’ve somehow never managed to eat at. I’m not going to lie – sometimes I can’t handle the food coma in a bun that is a cheesesteak for lunch.

Frequent commenter and tipster dbdtron did the dirty work…er, eating on opening day and wrote in with a short and sweet take on what he got from the downstairs takeout portion of the place. Find out what he has to say, straight ahead!  Read more »

First Look: A Taste Of Dave’s Hoagies Is Going To Cost You

I’m going to begin this post by saying no, I am not an expert on the hoagies of Philadelphia and don’t know that I had ever eaten one before Monday. That was when Dave’s Hoagies opened its doors in the Financial District with a small shop on Cedar St. (btw. William & Pearl).

With no base knowledge, I ordered a hoagie with turkey (the Italian seemed to be the most popular) and nearly all of “the works” and handed over more money than I normally do for meat between two pieces of bread.

Dave’s Hoagies Brings Philly-Style Sandwiches To Cedar St. Today

We got word last Friday that a new sandwich shop called Dave’s Hoagies is set to open today for lunch on Cedar St. (btw. William & Pearl). Sure enough, when I walked by finishing touches were being put on the small space that’s near some other Downtown Lunch favorites.

Prices are a little higher than what you’re used to for a sandwich, but these are probably fancier than what you’d get from the generic deli. If you love the sandwiches of Philadelphia, this is your spot. Take a look at the menu straight ahead!  Read more »

GoGo Grill Serves A Pulled Pork Sandwich On An Unconventional Base

Have you ever wondered what a pulled pork breakfast sandwich mash up might taste like? Well, you can get pulled pork sandwich on a homemade English muffin at the GoGo Grill cart that’s been parking at Bowling Green. While the sandwich has a couple of flaws, I think you’ll forgive the unconventional bun used here.  Read more »
