Iron Chef Japanese Gives DR Sushi a 5 out of 10

Between Mamacita’s review, and the original Fork in the Road report, you’re probably Duane Reade sushi’d out, so this is the last of it (and quite possibly the best)… the NY Post got Masaharu Morimoto to take the Duane Reade sushi challenge, and even though the article reads like he hated it, he ended up giving the sushi a 5 out of 10. Isn’t that a borderline rave for drug store sushi coming from an Iron Chef? Also makes us wonder what sushi he’s giving, say, a 3!?

Mamacita Takes the Duane Reade Challenge; Her Cat Declines

Title Image

It was with a heavy heart I left my apartment with one last kiss goodbye to my boyfriend. The future ahead of me looked dim, but the task before me demanded courage and strength of will. I had to put on my big girl pants and face the Duane Reade sushi challenge like a true gastronomic gladiator. My arena would not be filled with salivating spectators, but with bright florescent aisles packed with cosmetics, junk food and pharmaceuticals. Walgreens Sandwich Extends Its Reach

photo.jpgRight on the heels of VV taking the Duane Reade Sushi Challenge, news came over the wire last night that Walgreens bought Duane Reade yesterday for $1.075 billion. I’m not sure what this means for my Flex Reward Points or prescriptions, but more importantly will I now be forced to eye their vile sandwiches every time I need to pick up tissues?! Hopefully the takeover gods will save the fancy food!

Zabar’s Sandwiches at Penn Station Duane Reade

Now here’s a sandwich from a drug store I’ll try!  According to Eater, the Duane Reade in Grand Central Penn Station is now serving pre packaged sandwiches from Zabar’s in a fancy little kiosk. No word on what kind of sandwiches are available, or how much they are, but I’m sure they are 1000 times better than the poor excuse for sandwiches being served at the Times Square Walgreens. Normally if I’m in GC I’ll probably end up making my own sandwich at Murray’s Salami, but I suppose I could try the Duane Reade/Zabar’s sandwich… if I was dared.
