STK OUT To Finally Open Wednesday?

It’s been over 9 months since STK Out first displaced the Trini Paki Cart, but according to their Facebook and Twitter Wednesday will be the grand opening. Sure enough I walked by today and they were wearing down the temporary window coverings in preparation for their opening. Despite the name and all the talk of it being perfect for the lunch crowd looking for gourmet meals on the go, all early signs point to this place being way out of the Midtown Lunch price range. I guess we’ll find out on Wednesday!

Today is Chile Relleno Day at El Rey De Sabor

Last week El Rey de Sabor let us know that they were thinking about starting rotating specials every few days. First up: Chile Relleno. I hustled over to check it out, and if the chile relleno is anything to go by, these rotating specials are going to be a smash success. What I found after the jump:

Cinnamon Snail Opens Their Season Today in the Flatiron; Will Be in Midtown Later This Week

cinnamon snail

Spring is officially here, which means that the Cinnamon Snail is now back on the road for their first full season in New York. The Snail only got their permits in order at the very end of 2011, but they’ve already had successful lunches in both midtown and downtown. They spent their last lunch of the season in the Flatiron and they’ll be picking up where they left off in the Flatiron today with plans to hit both Midtown East and Midtown West later this week. Midtown Happy Hour: Little Town NYC Has a Ton of Great Specials (As Long As You Avoid the Pizza)

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every week, our Happy Hour Correspondent posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap. This week our new Happy Hour correspondent Jackie hits up an old restaurant row standby.

Surveying my friends (out of pure curiosity, boredom, and the need for inspiration) regarding the top three things that come to mind when they think of New York state, I realized how UN-New-York-y, they are. That said, there were quite a few “sensical” things that overlapped, including pizza (we’ll tackle that one later), the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Buffalo wings, and Brooklyn. Inspired by New York and the “little towns” in it, Little Town Restaurant Row pays homage to the Empire State in its entirety, including the “New York-y” things mentioned above.

Hot Jumbo Bagels Makes A Terrific Bagel & Lox Sandwich

I realized when I was writing the breakfast for lunch post that we haven’t mentioned longtime east side resident Hot Jumbo Bagels, a favorite of mine from when I once upon a time lived on east 56th street. Although 2nd avenue is out of bounds, it is worth the walk, especially with the weather the way it is these days.

Flatiron Lunch: The Brother’s Express Truck

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

This week, I had the enormous pleasure of meeting my predecessor, the King of the Flatiron, Ultraclay! And what did we do to celebrate our momentous meeting? We ate! Clay suggested a truck parked on the corner of 18th and 6th Avenue called Brother’s Express. He had been before and had always wanted to share it with you all, but moved to greener pastures to the north before he had the chance.

With several previous cancellations on both our parts, and Clay being snagged in the office at the last minute (yes, we actually do work in addition to contributing to ML), we almost didn’t make it. But thank goodness we did, because ever since I had walked by last week (after getting sandwiches at Boqueria), I had been eager to try it.
