Tri Tip Serving Special Baby Bucks Today

Tri Tip Grill in Rock Center is testing out a brand new menu item today… the Baby Buck Slider. Thinly sliced tri tip on a Martin’s potato roll, with a side of horseradish sauce and au ju. They come 3 to an order for $6.99, and are only available today (although a little birdie told us that we may or may not be announcing on Monday that these will also be served at the Midtown Lunch 5th Birthday Party as well.)

Bistro Truck To Start Parking in Midtown Next Week

_MG_0146 - Version 2

It’s been two years since we pondered when the Flatiron staple, Bistro Truck would make it’s way to Midtown. Since then, it has been stationed on or near the same block of 5th Avenue at 17th Street pretty much every day, but that’s all about to change.

Starting Monday, the Moroccan food truck will be spreading the love, taking its blend of North African, Southern European and global dishes around town. On Mondays they’ll be on 27th between Park and Madison, Tuesday in SoHo on Hudson and King, Wednesdays are their sole day in Midtown on 55th between Park and Lexington, Thursdays they’ll be down in the Financial District serving to Downtown Lunchers on Water and Wall Streets. For the loyal followers in Flatiron, they’ll still be in their current spot every Friday.

They’ll also be offering a newly streamlined menu, which I hope doesn’t stop them from offering some of the daily specials that have made them great like the fish tacos and the mixed grill I loved so much.  Check it out after the jump…

Flatiron Lunch: Madison Square Eats returns

Every Friday our man UltraClay goes south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

_MG_6504 - Version 2

Unless you’re (bizarrely) of the opinion that the area doesn’t really need more food options, you’re most likely pretty excited about the return of Madison Square Eats. In fact, you’ve probably already checked out the collection of nearly 30 vendors hawking all types of food, drink and general goodness in Worth Square in the week that its been open. I know I’ve been there nearly every day trying out one thing or another and there’s been a healthy crowd every time. Well, as healthy as you can be surrounded by pizza, tacos, hot dogs, and deep fried pork ribs. And on that note, let’s see the food.

Das Racist Doesn’t Eat Street Meat Anymore

Das Racist, the New York rap outfit responsible for “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell”, likes to be taken to eat soup dumplings, but had this to say to Eater about street meat: “I don’t fuck with street meat anymore but when I was a teenager we’d drive in from Queens to get some chicken and rice or hit up 53rd and 6th after a long night out.” No more street meat!? Clearly we need to take these guys to XPL, Little Morocco, or Kwik Meal and get them back on the wagon. [Eater via Food is the New Rock]

Crêpe Monster’s Milk Toaster is like a Crêpe Cinnamon Roll

Crepe Monster's Milk Monster

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I’m one of the last ML contributors to check out Food Gallery 32. The early reports looked good, but nothing really motivated me to schlep to 32nd street until until I read the Serious Eats review of Crêpe Monster’s Milk Toaster which they called “gloriously excessive and delicious.” Mmm, “gloriously excessive” sounds like my type of dessert! There’s More to Tuscany Than Just the Eggplant Parm

Tuscany While “researching” for lunch spots to eat, I randomly found a post on Serious Eats NY talking about how wonderful the eggplant parm sandwich from Tuscany was and Zach seems to agree (although that was four years ago!) I do love these semi-secretive lunch spots so I had to check it out. While I was there I noticed everyone that came in to get lunch either got pizza or sandwiches. The pizza did look pretty good but I had something else on my mind. Meatballs! So instead of getting what everyone else was getting I got myself the spaghetti with meatballs. So how was it? Did I make the right choice by not getting the eggplant parm? Let’s find out.

Win Your Way Into Street Meat Palooza 4

When we announced the Midtown Lunch 5th Birthday Party you may have noticed the mention of prizes. Not just at the party, where we will have tons of “presents” to hand out to you (oh, like, a $50 gift certificate to Schnitzel & Things), but also in the weeks leading up to the party as well. And to get things started we figured we’d give away something that money can’t buy… a slot on the judging panel for Street Meat Palooza 4! If you have been a ML reader for awhile you know that every summer we hold an exclusive street meat taste off, where one plate of chicken and lamb over rice with hot sauce and white sauce is crowned champion by a select group of Midtown Lunch friends and readers. It’s not open to the public, but we’re going to give away a judging slot this week.  All you have to do to be entered to win is buy your Midtown Lunch 5th Anniversary Party ticket before this Sunday (5/15) at 11:59pm.  Every ticket you buy counts for one entry… so 1 ticket gets you one entry, 2 tickets gets you 2 entries, 10 tickets… hell… if you buy ten tickets we’ll just give you an automatic invite to SMP4! If you’ve already bought your ticket, you’re already entered (for this, and all the contests to follow.)  If you haven’t… seriously, what are you waiting for?   It’s going to be a great party, and it’s for a great cause.  Buy your tickets here>>

Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck Launches Today

4 days ago Midtown had zero lobster roll trucks, today it has two!  As promised last week the Red Hook Lobster Pound truck launches today, and, unlike Luke’s- which went right into the belly of the beast– RHLP is going to do a little road test on the outskirts of Midtown.  They’re planning on parking somewhere near 26th and Park (Midtown’s loss is Flatiron’s gain!) with a menu that is fairly similar to Luke’s.

Check it out after the jump.

Juicy Wings Cart Relocates… Right Next To The Competition

The Biryani Cart empire appears to be expanding its borders beyond 46th and 6th. Their Juicy Wings cart, which hasn’t actually been serving wings since February, is now set up 2 blocks south on the SW corner of 44th & 6th serving traditional favorites like biryani, street meat and kati rolls right next to My Biryani, a cart heavily “inspired” by Biryani Cart.  The  move will surely result in some “friendly” competition, but when I stopped by the much less well-known My Biryani was actually serving more people in its usual spot than the recently relocated offshoot of the original. It will be interesting to see how lines compare as more people realize they can get Biryani Cart food two blocks away, presumably with less waiting.
