Crazy lines

Broccoli Rob

Went to try Taim Mobile today. Got an early start and showed up at 11:25. There were already 22 people on line waiting for them to open. Yesterday, I walked past Korilla and Uncle Gussy's at lunchtime, and they both had 30+ people on line. Between the nice weather and the explosion of chatter about the new trucks, this is just absolutely no fun anymore. I can't waste 45 minutes waiting for my lunch. How do all of you people have so much free time?

...also, Taim's location is WRONG on their twitter. They're actually between 3rd and Lex. Imagine the line if they were actually parked where they claimed?

It's the reason I don't bother with some of the new trucks -- too many people are willing to wait forever to trade money for food. I'm not one of them. I can't imagine the food is so insanely good that I absolutely must try them regardless of how long it takes. Good on them for creating such hype, but it's simply not worth the time to me.

This is also the biggest reason I haven't been to DiFara's for pizza.

@Broccoli Rob: That sucks! Sorry. When I approach a truck and see that the line is long, I go to plan B.

Also, I find that Fridays are usually the worst days for lines.

I have to agree, the only queue I do is Barbecue. Nothing is more precious than my time, and there are far too many places to eat.

Just checked out Mexicue- same thing there. Line was about 35 deep and really disorganized, bunch of men in blue shirts standing around.

@Dave: DiFara's only needs to be experienced once. Yes, it's amazingly good. No, it's not worth an hour on the Q train followed by an hour (often two hours)waiting for pizza. Not to mention it's $5 a slice. And they're closed Monday and Tuesday. And when they're open, they close from 4 to 6. And the nicely charred pizza is often burned to a black singe.

That's why I rarely get Korrilla. Line is too insane. It is good, but not 45 min in line good. Not that that would stop me from taking my regular hr and 15 min lunch, but I just don't like standing around for 45 min. waiting for anything if I'm not getting paid extra to do it....

I'll also add you aren't missing anything by not trying Taim...it's ok, but nothing great....I vomitted when I tried to eat their foul platter. That couscous concoction made me hurl into the bag! But the falafals were decent all things considered, and the hummus was fine as well.

  9. Went by Taim truck at around 1 PM - line was about 25 deep - PASS.

Ran some errands and then came across Mexicue truck for first time ever - and only 2 people in line! Pulled pork slider had nice smoky undertones and pickled onions added a nice crunch. More filling than it looks. Brisket taco very good too. Great balance of flavors. Not a ton of food, but very very tasty.

Interestingly, Taim tweeted at 1:25- "52 between lex and 3rd! Short line !!" So much for the truth in advertising laws!

Broc, "short line" does not denote length. It may be short compared to the all time longest line they've had for all we know.

Nice that Mexicue thinned out, but unfortunately they shutter the truck at like 2pm.

It seems all the trucks shutter around 2 or 2:30.
