Pizza Pizza’s “Slip Slice” Is Kind of Genius

Sometimes you see an idea involving food and realize it’s something that perhaps should be adopted more widely. That was the case when I saw the Slip Slice on the menu at Pizza Pizza on Pearl St. (nr. Stone), the sister restaurant to Burger Burger a couple of doors down. So what is this item? It involves two slices of pizza and extra cheese, but you’re going to have to click through for a visual.

Win A Street Meat Palooza 4 Judging Spot

Over on the Midtown site you may have noticed a post about winning a slot on the judging panel at Street Meat Palooza 4. It’s true, you too can be a part of this exclusive street meat tasting event where one plate of chicken and lamb over rice triumphs over all the others. To be entered to win all you have to do is buy a ticket to the Midtown Lunch 5th Anniversary Party before this Sunday (5/15) at 11:59 p.m. If you already bought a ticket, you’re already entered. And since all proceeds go to the Street Vendor Project it’s a win-win. Tickets are available here.

Fatty Snack’s Food Is Worth Heading North of $10

I don’t know what’s in the water, but twice in two days on this site we’ve endorsed paying more than $10 for a lunch that may still leave you hungry. Have we gone insane? No, but every once in a while you just have to pay up to eat something good. That’s what you’re going to do at Fatty Snack, the new kiosk joining Ed’s Lobster Bar and Quality Burger by the marina outside the World Financial Center. All of the main items on the menu hover around the $10 mark and since you’re probably going to want a side and/or drink it’s going to get expensive. But judging by the items I tried it’s totally worth it. Read more »

Also, the Calexico cart is out of commission for the day.

Cajun Maggie’s Closes On Possibly Cursed Block Of John St.

Maggie's resize

I wasn’t all that surprised to see Hello Pasta had closed, but when Lunch’er Kevin e-mailed me a sad picture of a for rent sign in the window at Cajun Maggie’s, a “WTF?” may have escaped my mouth. Tokyo Kitchen closed a while ago and as I noted when I ate at Maggie’s a couple of weeks ago, this was one of the last slightly dodgy place to eat on that block of John St. between Broadway and Nassau. Now that distinction is left to Blimpie.
