Your Guide to the Theater District Shake Shack Concretes

DSC00009
If you’ve been living under a rock you might be interested to know that the Shake Shack Theater District is open at last. Early reports are very promising and it seems that they have the line management situation down pretty well. Now all the Shake Shacks in the city have the same basic menu. Shack Burgers. Shack Dogs. Shroom Burgers. Cheese Fries. And they all abide by the same monthly custard calendar. But where the Shacks stand apart is with their concretes–that’s Danny Meyer speak for blended frozen custard treats for the uninitiated. Yesterday three brand new concretes took at bow at the Shake Shack Theater District. Naturally I had to try them all, for the good of Midtown Lunchers everywhere, of course.

At Lunch Now: The Not Unexpected Madness of Shake Shack’s Opening Lunch

The highly anticipated new Midtown Shake Shack (on 44th and 8th Ave.) might have soft opened on Saturday… but lunch today is their first real test. Ready to brave the madness? Our man Jeremiah is sending live reports from the scene to help you decide.

11:45 am – Just got to the brand new Shake Shack on 44th and 8th, and shockingly it’s not really mobbed at all. Maybe a dozen people in line. Pix 11 is here taping people order. I’m ready for my close up!

11:49 am – The line’s moving pretty quick and it’s decidedly not-hectic. Still probably less than 20 people in line.

11:50 am – Deciding what to order. I’m obviously getting. A burger… and a concrete. The question is, should I get a Chicago dog too?

Shake Shack Soft Opens Over the Weekend

Thanks to Lunch’er Andy for the photo

Enjoy the sight above, because chances are it’s the last time you’re going to see the highly anticipated Theater District Shake Shack (on 44th and 8th) open and not completely packed.  Saturday night Lunch’er Andy sent word that the Shake Shack soft opened on Saturday, with NO LINE (probably because they told the New York Times that today was the big day.) Those bastards at the Shack may have cheated us out of the opening day festivities, but I guess we respect their attempt to get the staff up to speed ahead of what we all know is the real opening day… the very first day of Midtown lunching. We expect them to open today at 11 am, which means there will likely be a mob scene at…um… 11 am.  I plan on heading over just before noon, to see how things are going (and grab myself a burger.) Stay tuned to Midtown Lunch for live updates.

NYT Says Shack Will Open 11am on Monday: An article posted to the NYT's Diner's Journal says that the Shake Shack will indeed open on Monday at 11am! Interesting side note... they noticed a new sign in front of Schnipper's Quality Kitchen touting the fact that they are not a chain (clearly a response to the Shack opening 3 blocks away.)  Ironic coming from the guys who founded Hale & Hearty!

Shake Shack Opening on Monday?

According to The Feast, Monday is the big day (but we might swing by during lunch just to be sure!)

Shack Watch: Post Holiday Weekend Edition

New places love having soft openings over holiday weekends, but I swung by the new Shake Shack (on 8th Ave. and 44th) this morning, and there’s nothing to indicate they’re opening today. The same signs about training and the menu with “two weeks.” Not much going on inside either. There were some guys working on the lights in the signs, they had no idea when it was opening. We’ll keep watching…

Things We Refuse to Believe: New Shake Shack is Two Weeks Away

Yesterday a worker at the much anticipated Midtown Shake Shack (on 8th Ave. and 44th) told a Lunch’er that they were going to try to open tomorrow. After we posted the tip, Shake Shack added a little note to the menu posted in their window (and told another Lunch’er that it might be next week if they get their permits.)  Two weeks!?!  Come on.  Really?  I guess that would make sense, since the building it’s isn’t scheduled to open until July 13th.  But I think we might walk by tomorrow during lunch… you know… just in case.

New Shake Shack Signage is Up

HK Shake Shack

In case you missed the photo posted to NewYorkology on Monday (or the numerous mentions in the comments)… signage for the new Shake Shack on 8th Ave. and 44th Street has gone up.  Still not definite opening date, but according to NewYorkology the hotel that it’s located in will open on July 12th.  Feel that in the air? That’s called excitement people. (Special thanks to fatappel for posting the photo to the Midtown Lunch Flickr Photo Pool.)

Shake Shack is Coming To Midtown!

Midtown Shake Shack Opening This Month!?: According to Grub Street, the Shake Shack being built on 8th Ave. and 44th Street will be opening this month.  We are so ready for this...

This is Why Midtown is Better Than Nolita: The Shake Shack had a bit of trouble at their community board meeting in Nolita on Tuesday night. Seems like the neighborhood doesn't like burgers.  Not so in Midtown!  The Shack breezed through its board meeting last night, getting liquor license approval for their new location opening on 8th Ave. and 44th St. slated to open in July.
