The ML Happy Hour Guide to Imbibing the Spirit of the Holidays

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so it seems only natural to have a happy hour column on the site. Every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Well it’s happened again. It’s getting cold outside, the sent of pine is in the air, and the streets of Midtown are getting thick with tourists. The holiday season is upon us once again and I’m willing to embrace it in all its jolly ol’ St. Nick tinsel town glory! That’s right, Mamacita is dreaming of a white Russian Christmas. So bring on that holiday cheer and make it a double. Of course, this is thirsty work and you may need some help. The following are some spirited festivities that will keep you red nosed and jolly!

Ml Happy Hour: Following The Mistress of Convenience At Connolly’s

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so it seems only natural to have a happy hour column on the site. Every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” will post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

One of the many reasons we work in the city and put up with the various daily nuisances involved boils down to convenience. There is an exceptionally wide array of desirable goods and services available within a concentrated area that is relatively easy to access. This is generally a good thing, but we all know what they say about too much of a good thing. Convenience is a lovely, seductive lady, but she comes with a dark side. She can lead you to places you really didn’t want to go. And so it was that one afternoon, while on the Eastside and feeling a mighty thirst, I found myself at another Connolly’s. I had my reservations, however the mistress that is convenience has a way of bending your elbow. Read more »

ML Happy Hour: Follow The Light To The Carriage House

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

It is always hard to lose a loved one and I shed an 80 proof tear when I heard the tragic news that the Subway Inn had apparently closed. Upon hearing that reports of its death had been greatly exaggerated, I breathed a mightily sigh of relief. However, all this did give me cause to reflect on just how desolate this particular area of Midtown is, especially for one with my refined taste in drinking establishments. But ladies and gents there is one other grimy flickering light raging against that vast sea of darkness. Friends, I give you The Carriage House.

Mamacita’s Halloween Happy Hour Guide

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every week, our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap. Halloween is creeping up upon us and Mamacita compiled a list of bewitching bars to haunt on All Saints Day.

Putting aside the chaotic pyromania that is 4th of July, I can safely say that Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. When done right, it’s a masquerade of mayhem doused in a wave of luscious libations. Festivities start tonight and stumble through the weekend, culminating in a Monday monster mash that will leave you calling in sick on Tuesday. So start complaining about your sore throat to your boss now -in preparation.

Happy Hour: Whiskey River is a Good Place to Get Drunk on the Cheap

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every Friday afternoon we post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Whiskey River

With all the expensive Irish pubs in Midtown, sometimes you have to travel one avenue over to get a decent happy hour. And it’s the five hour happy hour that brought me to Whiskey River (on 2nd btw 31+32nd) this week. Happy hour there goes from 3pm to 8pm, a little longer than most and early enough that area workers can stop by for a late afternoon beer (at least one did while I was there.) But is this happy hour worth trek to Kips Bay?

Féile’s Food Looks Good, But It’s a Happy Hour Fail

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every Friday afternoon we post about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Féile first came to my attention during NY Craft Beer week when they were one of the participating venues. I noticed Mamacita has never reviewed this place (although she did bash their sister bar Maggie’s not too long ago) and even though it was in the overcrowded area of Penn Station, I thought I’d stop in for a brew.

Mad Sq Eats Is a Perfect After Work Happy Hour

Madison Square Eats
Earlier today Ultraclay gave you a run down of the lunch options at Madison Square Eats (on 5th btw. 24+25th).  But did you know it’s also the perfect place for an after work happy hour?  When I was working there on Monday night, I noticed a LOT of people walking around with beer and realized that there’s really only one other place in the area, Shake Shack, where one could sit outside enjoying the nice Indian Summer weather during dinner and some after-work drinks, without spending a small fortune. As soon as I got the time to check out the beer scene, I jumped at the chance, and I believe we have a moderately legitimate happy hour spot for the next few weeks.

ML Happy Hour: Last Chance To Quaff A Craft Beer

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so every Friday afternoon our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap.

Well, all is not lost my friends. I have some end-of-beer week suggestions for you even if you’re stuck in midtown. So for God’s sake, put down that PBR tonight and clean your self up, it’s fancy beer time!

Happy Hour Update: Baden Baden Changes Name to Dduk Tak

Dduk Tak

It looks like Mad For Chicken isn’t the only K-Town spot looking to reboot.  Restaurant Forte Baden Baden, a happy hour favorite of not only Ultraclay, but also of Peter Meehan from the NYT, has recently undergone a face lift and a name change. The slick new signage is more in keeping with its downstairs neighbor, Haru Hana, although the ownership and menu is the same. I guess a little re-branding every once in a while can’t hurt, although ‘Baden Baden’ is a lot more fun to say than ‘Dduk Tak’.
