Mamacita’s Halloween Happy Hour Guide

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every week, our Happy Hour Correspondent “Mamacita” posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap. Halloween is creeping up upon us and Mamacita compiled a list of bewitching bars to haunt on All Saints Day.

Putting aside the chaotic pyromania that is 4th of July, I can safely say that Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. When done right, it’s a masquerade of mayhem doused in a wave of luscious libations. Festivities start tonight and stumble through the weekend, culminating in a Monday monster mash that will leave you calling in sick on Tuesday. So start complaining about your sore throat to your boss now -in preparation.

Blue Ruin
Blue Ruin’s 3rd Annual Halloween Party will be held this Saturday starting at 9pm. This event is strictly for the brave, ballsy and bawdy. Dive in for haunted hourly shot specials, a costume contest (winner receives a $100 bar tab) plus you can document your revelry old school in their classic photo booth.

Rick’s Cabaret
On Monday Rick’s will hold their annual Halloween costume contest with drink specials. This event is not for those with slender means, but for those execs who are up for it you’ll most definitely get a treat with your trick.

Katwalk
Katwalk struts it’s Halloween stuff this Saturday. There is no cover charge and the option of a 3 hour premium open bar for $40 from 10-1am. A generous $500 cash prize will be awarded for the sexiest costume and a $200 bar tab for best group costume.

Croton Reservoir Tavern
Croton is not our typical happy hour haunt by a long shot, but if you’re looking for a large venue to flaunt your prize-winning costume then you’ll stop by here on Saturday. A DJ will be spinning the latest mixes,  drinks are 2 for 1 from 9-11pm, and the 1st 100 people get a free shot. $10 discount pre-pay tickets available here or pay at the door $15 with an RSVP.

Wharf Bar
On Saturday Wharf’s Halloween soirée begins with 16 beers on tap all for $3.50, ALL DAY! In the evening a DJ will get you in the grove as you vie for the best costume and a $200 gift card prize.

Bierhaus
There are two reasons to go to Bierhaus this weekend. 1st: it’s the last weekend of Octoberfest. 2nd: who doesn’t want to down a few brews and bask in some busty Bavarian clad beauties? No costume necessary, just a plate of sausage and a liter of Hofbröu.

Tonic Bar
The Village Voice’s official Halloween party is this saturday at Tonic bar from 6 to 10pm. Specials include a $10 appetizer platter, $5 pints of Captain Lawrence Pumpkin Spice beer and many giveaways including a $250 gift certificate.

NYC Halloween Bar Crawl
This bar crawl is perfect for daytime drunkards. The fun starts on Saturday at noon, so vampires may want to lather on the sunblock. Friends and fools will crawl there way up to 11 bars until twilight descends at 9PM. Tickets are $10 and registration is open from 12:00PM to 6:00PM at McFadden’s Saloon.

Tammany Hall Tavern (formerly Black Finn)
Black Finn said  sayonara this year. Its replacement, Tammany Hall, will host the Taven’s first Halloween bash this Monday. Come get your spook on with a $500 costume prize, live DJ and Raffles. Celebrate with a $40 3hr premium open bar for you and your friends from 10pm-1am, or 11pm-2am.

Last but not least!

It’s not a Big Apple Halloween with out the weekend long pub crawl hosted by PubCrawls.com. get ready for costume contests, 2 for 1 drinks, and $2 brews. For a list of participating bars and to buy your tickets click  here.
