Gyu-Kaku’s Chicken Garlic Noodles Will Satisfy Your Noodle Craving

Last week Gyu-Kaku Times Square started serving lunch. When I read their menu online, I was not surprised to see that one of  my favorite dishes, chicken garlic noodles, was within the ML price range, as it usually costs $10. I was surprised to find, however, that the dish’s price was slashed during lunchtime. Score!

Gyu-Kaku Times Square Now Serves Lunch

When Gyu-Kaku opened their new Times Square location a month ago, they didn’t offer lunch, which was a major bummer. Now that they’re in a groove, they’ve added lunchtime hours starting today (on weekdays lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), and more importantly, a lunchtime menu that starts tomorrow. While the sets don’t qualify as a Midtown Lunch, I’m happy to see on the online menu that the rice and noodle dishes will be offered at a deep discount, making them viable ML options! The chicken garlic noodles (a favorite of mine) is $6 (usually $10), which means you might be able to squeeze in an appetizer as well (they start at just $2). No word yet if these lunchtime price reductions will stick — Gyu-Kaku’s promotions tend to ebb and flow — but either way, the chicken garlic noodles have been calling my name, and you can be sure I’ll be by to check ’em out in the coming days.

Gyu-Kaku Times Square Is Open, But Not For Lunch

So, this annoying. Gyu-Kaku Times Square opened this week on 44th street between 8th and 9th avenues, but they aren’t open for lunch. They have plans to start serving lunch in the next month or two, but so far, their hours begin at 3 p.m. daily for dinner. We’ll keep checking back for when lunch comes into play.

Smokey Burger Organic and Gyu Kaku Coming Soon To Midtown West

Thanks to Lunch’er Michelle for tipping us off to two new places about pop up on 44th street between 8th and 9th.  The first is a new burger joint called Smokey Burger Organic, which describes themselves as “organic burgers, salads, and sides, all natural shakes and sodas crafted from fresh quality ingredients.” I wish I could tell you more about it (price point, menu items, etc.), but the website they’ve plastered on the signs (smokeyburgerorganic.com) doesn’t appear to be functional yet.

With Five Napkin Burger and Island Burgers & Shakes up 9th avenue, Shake Shack half a block east and Steak ‘n Shake‘s debut yesterday, the burger market’s getting to be a crowded one. Unless they’ve got something cool up their sleeves to entice us over there, I’m not sure if a burger place is what we need more of in Midtown West.

Now, Japanese BBQ?  That’s a different story altogether!

$10 Kobe Beef Kalbi All Day at Gyu Kaku

Thanks to @winedanddined for sending along this one… to celebrate their 10th Anniversary, Gyu Kaku (on 3rd Ave. and 50th) will be serving $10 portions of U.S. kobe beef kalbi for the ML price of $10 (for 3.5 ounces). It’s probably not enough for a full lunch, but it’s still a good deal (normally it’s $26!) Limit one order per person, while supplies last. They open at 11:30am

It’s $10 Kobe Beef Day at Gyu Kaku!: Apologies for the lateness of this one, but we just found out about it ourselves via Wined and Dined! Gyu Kaku (on 3rd and 50th) is celebrating its 10th Anniversary today by offering their kobe sampler (normally $40) for just $10. Limit one per table, but it looks like it's available all day long.

Gyu-Kaku’s Sizzling Hot Bibimbap is Under $10

Gyu-Kaku entrance

I’ve been on the hunt for a quality bulgogi-packed bowl of dolsot (read: sizzling hot) bibimbap in New York since I learned what it was five years ago by eating the Korean rice dish everyday in Australia. (It was cheap/delicious/so hot it hissed/came with bottomless banchan AKA Korean side dishes. I was a student. Cheap, unlimited anything was A+ in my book.) Zach came across a “pretty damn good” non-hot bibimbap at Cafe Amande deli last year, but I’ve been hoping to bump into its “pretty damn good” SIZZLING HOT cousin somewhere in Midtown East (aka outside of Koreatown). For five years, it’s been a fruitless search so imagine my surprise when I noticed a certain $9 lunch special at Gyu-Kaku (on 50th St. btw. 2+3rd) of all places…

Half Off Meat All May Long at Gyu Kaku… Pork Excluded: Thanks to Kayoko from Umamimart for passing along this deal: Gyu Kaku, the Japanese BBQ place on 50th btw. 2+3rd, is offering 50% off Monday-Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout May. The deal applies to 8 different meats, including Gyu-tan and their chuck kalbi tare... but not to any pork. They are *still* not serving any because of the swine flu.
