PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Stephanie”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s a Stephanie, an IT recruiter who wishes she was Anthony Bourdain’s assistant.

Name: Stephanie

Age: 27

Occupation: Coolest IT Recruiter you’ll ever meet, freelance photographer, music/food blogger & ninja.

Where in Midtown do you Work?: 40th Street btw. 5th and Madison

Favorite Kind of Food: Latin food (rice & beans/pernil/authentic empanadas), Asian cuisine (Dim Sum/sushi/Chinese Takeout), Seafood, Pasta and anything that cheese tastes good on. Oh and condiments & dipping sauces….yummmmm.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Indian food will never get me or anything spicy for that matter. I’m also not the healthiest eater around and I hate brussel sprouts & don’t do most vegetables. Also my general rule of thumb is if it doesn’t smell good – I’m not eating it.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: I could eat steamed pork dumplings and sushi forever and ever…however the dumpling scene in midtown is severely lacking. Severely. The make your own pasta at Nooi Pasta on 41st and Lexington is surprisingly good and for a splurge my coworker often goes to Salute on 38th street and his takeout things always look sooooo delicious!!

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Cafe Charlies on 40th btwn 5th and Madison sells literally almost everything under the sun and they’re pretty good in terms of price and overall quality. Cafe Zaiya (on 41st btw Mad+5th) is usually great and Homefront Deli (on 41st btw. Mad+Park) usually hits the spot and makes my wallet happy. I also don’t fear the street meat trucks but La Baguette Truck (SE Corner of B’way & 40th Street) is most definitely a fave around these parts. Also Sophie’s Cuban usually makes my coworkers and I smile, their tostones are pretty authentic =]

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? I’ll always be eternally grateful to Midtown Lunch for teaching me the ways of La Baguette truck (my work team had a tradition we endearingly titled “SMF” which stands for ‘Street Meat Fridays’ and we his up 3 of the places in your Street MeatPalooza, La Baguette was by far our fave!). I also tried Cafe Zaiya & Eddie’s Pizza truck thanks to you guys.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Errr…this is a toughie. I’m going to have to go with NYC or Toronto because of the diversity of both cities – just not midtown. Or being Anthony Bourdain’s personal assistant, that would be AWESOME! Anywhere but midtown east…are you guys hiring? Anthony if you see this, call me ;-)

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Anyone want to deliver me soup dumplings from Joe’s Shanghai?! I’ll be your friend forever *smile*

As always if you want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email editor@midtownlunch.com.
