Snapshots: What We Ate at Food Gallery 32 w/ Google Yesterday

_MG_4952 - Version 2

Yesterday, more than 50 winning lunchers joined us for a free meal at Koreatown’s Food Gallery 32 provided by the fine folks at Google Places. Blondie, Brownie, Chris and I snacked on some great food and met more than a few of the winners.

If you didn’t make it, follow the jump for a few of the dishes that we ate there.

Jamaican Dutchy Truck Finally Returns to Midtown!

Jamaican Dutchy It’s been a tough year for the Jamaican Dutchy. For years they had been on 51st btw 6+7th. Then in June of this year they decided to switch their operation to a brand new truck, while the cart went downtown. Unfortunately right when they debuted the truck the crack down of street food vendors started and they were forced to leave their spot by the police and ever since they’ve struggled to find a regular spot to set up.  And we got screwed out of delicious Jamaican food! Well, Midtown Lunch’ers rejoice, O’Neill has brought the Jamaican Dutchy truck back to midtown. Many of you Lunch’ers had spotted the Jamaican Dutchy truck on 43rd btw 2+3rd and for now it seems that that is their permanent spot, serving delicious Jamaican food to a new crowd of Midtown workers (aka us east siders!)

With the Jamaican Dutchy on the east side now, Midtown east has two Jamaican trucks (Jamaican Dutchy and Jerk Pan). It’s hard not to compare the two trucks since they park relatively close to each other. I decided to get an order of a small brown stew chicken ($8) since I’m a fan of Jerk Pan’s brown stew chicken.

Two Buck Brisket Sliders & Chili Truck Reminder

So much cheap food truck action today!  If you’re not scoring free lunch from Mastercard, don’t forget that the Rachael Ray’s “Two Buck Truck” will be parked on Vanderbilt btw. 42+43rd today from 1pm, selling both brisket sliders and chili for just $2 (you get both for two dollars.) Insist on paying full price for your food truck lunch? Papa Perrone, Eddie’s Pizza, Comme Ci Comme Ca, Luke’s Lobster, Big D’s Grub Truck, Taim Mobile, Korilla, Coolhaus, Bian Dang, and Gorilla Cheese are all on the ML Twitter Tracker today.

There’s a Ton of Food in The Shops at Bryant Park

Shops at Bryant Park
The Shops at Bryant Park opened up last week, and there seems to be more food options that ever before. In addition to the regular booths, a few lucky vendors like Aroma Espresso Bar have double booths with more than enough room to hang out for a few minutes inside. I stopped by the other day to get a look around, and a taste of the “Mmm…Enfes” that Brownie raved about.

Mastercard Buys Us A Second Round of Free Lunch

Today is round two of Mastercard’s Food Truck Feast promotion in which they give away free lunch from ten different food trucks in the city every Thursday for a month. This week, there’s a brand new roster of vendors, including Palenque and Sweetery both on 51st (bw Madison and Park), Wafels & Dinges and Red Hook Lobster in the Flatiron, and Bistro Truck and the new Morris Grilled Cheese just out of bounds on Lexington (bw 68th and 67th).

For a complete list and locations, check out their Facebook page. And don’t forget to tweet with the hashtag #PricelessNY or simply flash your Mastercard to score the grub. Plus even though the official rules say differently, I was told last week by one of the Mastercard reps that there is no limit to how many free lunches you can get. So even if you scored last Thursday, that doesn’t mean you can’t eat for free again today – and if you play your cards right, maybe you can even get free food at multiple locations today. But remember, there are only 500 free lunches from each truck, so arrive as early as possible to avoid a shut out. The promotion lasts from 11am-3pm. Freeloaders, start your engines!

Contributor Stalking (The “Clam Pie” edition)

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (We’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Zuppardi's White Clam Close Up

Blondie headed to Carroll Gardens for lunch at Frankie’s Spuntino 457, Brownie took to the road to get a famous New Haven-style clam pizza from Zuppardi’s Apizza, Brian picked some of his favorite desserts in New York, Donny had dinner at The Cannibal and asks who will eat half a pig’s head with him (I will!), Rachel cooked baked pasta with eggplant and I’m belatedly celebrating Halloween with a walk through Argentina’s Recoleta Cemetery.

Elsewhere in the ML universe… Zach obsessed over the best lunch at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in LA, Jamie ate half the menu at Uzbekistan in Northwest Philly and Andrea contemplates the quality of the lamb burger at Burger Burger in FiDi.

$12 for $24 at AJ Maxwell’s: Today, InBundles is offering $24 of food at AJ Maxwell's for $12 (on 48th btw. 5+6th). The deal is for dine-in lunch only and is good on their entree sized sandwiches and salads. $12 is still over the ML limit, but if you're looking for a splurge lunch this could be the deal for you!
