Burger Deal Reminder: Don't forget, today is the last day for the $10 early bird special at Burger Joint. And tomorrow is the last day for the $10 special at HB Burger.

Another Day, Another Cart

You know something would be wrong if a week went by without somebody announcing they’re opening a new street cart.  This week we’ve got two.  The Bistro Truck plans on hitting the streets by the end of the month serving up a delicious (and cheap) looking menu of Moroccan specialties like merguez, lamb, and tajine (in addition to a burger, and steak sandwich.)  They’ll start off in Union Square, but the owner told me they might come to Midtown eventually.  You can see the menu here, and follow them on Twitter here.

There are also rumors that a Momofuku Truck is in the works. We would welcome that venture into Midtown with open arms as well (natch.)

Eggs Travaganza’s Serious Cart Breakfast

I don’t eat my breakfast in Midtown (one meal a day in this wasteland is enough for me, thanks) but if I did this would easily be my #1 choice: the Eggs Travaganza Cart (on the NE Corner of 52nd & Park). Pancakes and bacon? Chorizo and eggs? Breakfast wraps? All from a cart? Amazing. Now if only they’d stay open past Noon! [Serious Eats: New York]

Ok, Seriously? NOW This Froyo Thing is Getting Ridiculous

DSC03604

Somebody please make it stop. I spotted this sign on 8th Ave. btw. 46+47th inside a Subway/Papa John’s combo. ONE BLOCK AWAY from a Red Mango! Nobody is going to eat your crappy froyo rip off. Can you just answer me this. WHY?????

At Lunch Now: Pigeon Peas is Different Than Pigeon

As suspected, the Trini Paki Boys Cart (on 43rd and 6th) was not selling pigeon today, but pigeon peas- as part of a chicken "pelau" introduced yesterday. The dish is a traditional Trinidadian rice dish that they plan on having every Tuesday and Wednesday. Full report coming soon. (Oh, and btw… tomorrow is goat biriyani day at the cart. Maybe not as exciting as pigeon, but it’ll have to do.)

Kinako Soft Serve Alert: I don't think I've ever had kinako (soybean powder) in any form- but according to Kathy YL Chan, Cafe Zaiya on 41st btw. Mad+5th is now serving kinako soft serve... and I will take her word for it that this is exciting news!  I guess we'll need her to update her food porn guide to Cafe Zaiya.

Don’t Be Scared off by Kabab & Grill’s Funky Goat

Kebab and Grill

I had wanted to try Kabab & Grill (on 36th btw. B’way+7th) long before I read about their funky goat stew on the blog Food and Mouth. Anytime there’s cheap Indian (or Pakistani) food being sold out of steam tables for under $10 I’m going to try it.  Throw in a Latin food steam table, which is where the goat came from, and now pizza, and it becomes a pretty typical “how could I pass this up?” Midtown Lunch.  I finally got a chance to sample the Indian/Pakistani food from Kebab & Grill last week, and while it may not win any “best of” awards, it’s a perfectly good (and cheap) Indian food option for that area.

What I tried is after the jump…

Free Ice Cream (& Massage) Alert

For those who remember such things, back in September of last year MaxWell Medical hired a Mister Softee looking truck to give out free ice cream in an effort to promote their free medical massages. Well, they’re back again today! From 12:30 to 2pm there will be free ice cream (and free medical massage flyers) on the NW corner of 53rd and Madison Ave. (Make sure you grab a massage flyer before you get on line, I think they might require you to have one to score the free ice cream.)

Streetcart Pigeon? This Can’t Be Right: According to this Twitter user the Trini-Paki Boys cart (on 43rd & 6th) will be serving pigeon today...? Could it have said pigeon peas?  Photo confirmation is welcome here.  (The least they could do is call it squab, right?)

Cupcake Stop Truck in Midtown Today (With Pudding!?!)

By now I’m sure you’ve heard about the law student, turned cupcake truck owner behind the Cupcake Stop Truck.  Originally they were planning on parking the Herald Square Area, but fame is a fickle mistress- and aside from a few TV appearances, where they handed out free minis to passersby, Midtown has been completely Cupcake Stop free.  Until today.  The Cupcake Stop Truck is selling cupcakes today on 47th and 3rd from now until 6pm tonight (barring any “problems”.)

They were parked near my apartment on Sunday, so I decided to “sample” a box of mini cupcakes.  Check ’em out after the jump…
