Federal Donuts Coconut Curry Fried Chicken

Now that the lines have died down, and the possibility of selling out is not as dire, Federal Donuts has become a favorite place of mine to take visitors. The Center City location seems to have a steady steam of traffic at all times. They make the most out of the small space with little tables and window counter seating.

A half order ($9.25) consists of a breast, thigh and drumstick; its a lot of fried chicken for one person, but its also awesome to share if you are trying to give someone a taste of Philly. (On that same block of Sansom Street you can also get dosas, korean tacos, and hummus)

Why you need a pastry you don’t know how to pronounce: the Kouign Amann from Rival Bros

Rival Bros successfully made the cross over from truck to a cafe in Graduate Hospital last year. Not being a coffee person, it was the baked goods that brought me in, especially knowing they come from the genius bakers at High Street.  Tables are scarce, so you may need to prepare yourself for a to-go order like I had to.

Beef Noodle Soup at Bap

I liked the healthy and cheap bibimbap bowls served at the teeny Korean place, Bap, on South Street. Since the opening last year they have added 2 items to their small bibimbap menu- Korean pancakes and beef noodle soup.

How About Reuben Tacos: A Revisit to Quetzally

When Quetzally opened on 12th and Fitzwater in 2013, I was slightly obsessed with how this tiny, unassuming spot delivered authentic Mexican plates for cheap without me having to cross Washington Ave. For real, I kept bothering my friends to check it out with me. When we arrived for a revisit,  I was thrilled to find a revamped menu, with creative tacos I would have never expected.
