Chestnut Hill’s Market at the Fairway Korean Tacos

I just learned about the existence of The Market at Fairway- open Thursday through Saturday in Chestnut Hill. Like a mini Reading Terminal, the space houses food vendors- both prepared and goods to take home and cook yourself.  Exploring the  Market for the first time, I did a lap around, but ultimately decided to have lunch at the first stand I saw when I walked in- Chicko Tako, for Korean-Mexican food.

Guatemalan and Mexican To Go at Cafe Canela

Jin Wei aka “4 Choices with a Soup”

Chinese steam tables can be scary. But here is the thing to remember, if you hate it, you only wasted a few dollars. That and food poisoning is temporary. At Jin Wei aka “4 Choices with a Soup” you get… 4 choices from the steam table and a soup. I navigated the steamy rows of Chinese meats, carbs, and veggies and lived to tell the tale. I didn’t even hate it!

Meat Stuffed Plantains at Tierra Colombiana

Tierra Colombiana, the less frou-frou and more distant sister to the Gayhorhood’s Mixto, serves Colombian, Ecuatorian, and Cuban food in North Philly.  It also doubles at a night club. But there was no way I was dancing after all the food I put away.  There are a lot of big plates on the menu, but my group focused on the appetizers so we had more to sample.

Savory Bowls at Metropolitan Cafe

Metropolitan Cafe is conveniently located on the South end of Rittenhouse Square, next to its small bakery. The cafe sells  sandwiches, soups, snacks, pastries and more, plus a caffeinated drinks. It’s pretty cozy in there, and the large windows are perfect for watching people walk by.
