Adrienne’s Slings A Pizza Style Close To My Heart

There’s a style of pizza I grew up eating that was baked on a cookie sheet by moms for birthday parties or at semi-crappy pizzerias. I love NYC-style pizza as much as the next person, but sometimes it’s nice to find a little variation whether it’s in fancy Neopolitan pies or a grandma slice. When I went to Adrienne’s Pizza Bar on Stone St. (nr. Hanover Square) for lunch I was not expecting to have a blast from the past put in front of me. Read more »

Sahara Express Cart: Where Spicy Equals Buffalo-Style

It’s been awhile since I’ve randomly eaten at one of the many nondescript street meat carts dotting the sidewalks along Broadway. The Sahara Express cart at Broadway & Warren caught my eye because the signs on the side said they supposedly served fish over rice (and hummus, but I wasn’t fooled by that one). I love street meat fish and had one of the tastiest lunches ever ordering sea creatures from a truck. I put in my order behind a guy who had obviously been sent on a lunch mission for his office, and quickly came to realize that I was going to be eating either chicken or lamb. Read more »

Banh Mi Invasion Continues With Nicky’s Vietnamese

The hunger for Vietnamese sandwiches knows no bounds (unless you make crappy ones), and with that comes a new branch of Nicky’s Vietnamese Sandwiches on Nassau St. (at Ann). They are already a sort of institution in Brooklyn and the East Village with cheap and tasty sandwiches. I was walking to get myself some street meat and then I spotted a grand opening sign in a mini-mall of sorts and Nicky’s became my new lunch destination. Read more »

Fuji Catering Proves Laziness And A Decent Lunch Can Go Hand In Hand

It’s getting to that time of year when the weather can make that generic deli across the street suddenly looks more appealing than your favorite cart a few blocks away. That’s when delivery comes in handy, and if you’re a fan of Japanese bento lunches, then you might want to check out Fuji Catering. I hadn’t heard of it until Lunch’er Kevin pointed it out in his profile. Who doesn’t like having cheap food delivered to them? Read more »

Become One With Tourists While Eating A Grandma Slice At Majestic Pizza & Calzone

After a disappointing slice experience recently, I’d kind of shied away from pizza for a while. One day that I didn’t have much time for lunch I headed over to Majestic Pizza & Calzone on Cortland (btw. Church & Broadway) on the intel that they had a good grandma slice with fresh basil. I have maybe eaten one grandma slice in my life (unless you count what those in the Midwest call pan pizza, of which I have eaten a lot), so I was happy to make this No. 2.

The Ear Inn Is Worth The Hike For Lunch

The Ear Inn is one of those places that you really have to want to go to since it’s off the beaten path in SoHo, and not exactly a typical lunch destination. Despite that, when I and my co-luncher walked in for a later lunch on what was a holiday for some people, the place was still full and not just with people drinking at the bar. It had been recommended not once, but twice by profiled lunch’ers who work in the area and that was good enough for me.

Saving The Earth One Chicken Cilantro Sandwich At A Time At Birdbath Green Bakery

Tribeca seems to be a magnet for a certain type of bakery/ lunch spot hybrid, especially the farther north you go in the neighborhood. That’s why I wasn’t too surprised when Birdbath Bakery opened the latest in its continuing expansion of “green” stores on Church St. (at Thomas) late last week. I had been meaning to check out the SoHo location that opened not too long ago, strictly for the chicken cilantro sandwich which had been recommended. But thanks to my procrastination, I didn’t even have to take the subway! Find out what a “green” bakery looks like, after the jump.
