It Took Two Years, But I Finally Tried Snack’s Lamb Sandwich

I have a bunch of places on a literal “to eat” list and Greek restaurant Snack on Thompson (btw. Spring & Prince) is near the top of that list, as it’s been on there almost since the beginning of my taking over as editor of ML Downtown. More than one Profiled Lunch’er has mentioned how delicious their lamb sandwich is, but its $10 price tag and the fact that there was always some new food truck spawning kept making me forget about it. Well, you’ll be happy to know that I finally made it up to Soho to review this sandwich, and due to my procrastination it’s now out of the ML price range.

Well, there are options for that on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker including Phil's Steaks at Water & John, Gorilla Cheese and Sweetery are at Hudson & King, Mike N Willie's is at Front & Gouverneur, Korilla's at Varick & Vandam, Cinnamon Snail's at Wall & Water, Big D's Grub's at Front & Old Slip, Our Heros has a turkey burger at Wall & Water and Desi Food Truck's at Hanover Sq. PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Eric”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Eric who works ever so slightly out of bounds, but I know many of you working in Soho often trek up to the W. Village for lunch.

Name: Eric

Occupation: HR & financial analyst and food blogger

Where you work: Hudson and W. Houston

Age: 26

Favorite kinds of food: Pizza, Chinese, Thai, bacon cheeseburgers, anything with melty goodness.

Least favorite foods: Tofu, Indian

Favorite lunches downtown: For (American) Chinese, it would be Suzie’s on Bleecker (btw. Thompson & Sullivan). Their lunch special tops out at $8, which includes soup (wonton soup – awesome), two chicken wings/veggie roll, your dish and rice.  The sesame chicken is on point, as is anything with broccoli.  Pizza, I gotta go Bleecker Street Pizza on 7th Ave. S. (at Bleecker) and get either the grilled chicken or Nonna Maria slice.  The “secret” Chick-Fil-A at NYU is another favorite.  Of course with all the food trucks around, Schnitzel & Things and Crisp on Wheels are frequented, too.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: “The Kapeteria” aka the cafeteria in my office building.

Get Half Off At Milady’s Bar: I didn't even know Milady's Bar existed on Prince St. (btw. W. Broadway & Thompson), but there's a deal for $20 worth of food for $10 and it looks like the menu is pretty cheap for the neighborhood anyway. Cheeseburgers and hot wings sound pretty good right now.

Gorilla Cheese Has A Matzo Melt: Your options at the WFC lot today are Gorilla Cheese (with a melt on matzo for Passover. Get it with bacon!), Mexicue, Phil's Steaks and Red Hook Lobster. Elsewhere, the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker says Comme Ci Comme Ca's at Old Slip & Water, Bongo Brothers is at Varick & Vandam and Schnitzel & Things is at Hudson & King.

My Favorite Roll At Luke’s Lobster Is Also The Cheapest

With warm weather making guest appearances off and on lately, I’ve had lobster rolls on the brain and we are lucky to have more than one option for those in the Financial District. A few weeks ago I attended the Village Voice’s Choice Eats event and eating shrimp rolls from Luke’s Lobster and Red Hook Lobster Pound reminded me that these things are delicious and also, why have I not written about the one from Luke’s on this on the site yet? Also a fact: Luke’s Lobster’s shrimp roll is the only non-soup item on the menu for less than $10. Read more »
