Check Out Downtown Eateries At Dine Around: If you're indecisive about where to eat lunch tomorrow you might want to check out the Dine Around Downtown event where 50 restaurants from the Financial District, Battery Park City and Tribeca serve food at the Chase Manhattan Plaza on Nassau St. (btw. Cedar & Pine). Most of these are pricier restaurants (aka, out of the ML price range), and you can try their food for between $3 and $7. There's a list of participating restaurants here and the event goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., unless it rains in which case it will be held at the same time on Wednesday.

Basmati Royale At Comme Ci Comme Ca Is A Festival Of Meats

There are days when I’m fine with eating a meatless lunch and others when greasy meat, preferably from a cart or truck, is all that I want. Since you’ve all been raving about the Comme Ci, Comme Ca truck in the forums I decided that was my destination of choice on their usual Monday stop in the Financial District. Several items have already been sampled on the midtown site, like the chicken over rice and merguez. Both of these sounded great, so I did what any self-respecting carnivore would do and got them all in the $10 “basmati royale” platter. Read more »

Desi Food Truck, Free Whoopie Pies On The Twitter Tracker: You have a shot at free sweets today with Sweetery giving out whoopie pies starting at noon on Hudson. Elsewhere on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker, Schnitzel & Things is on Hudson, Frying Dutchmen and Gorilla Cheese are on Water, the Desi Food Truck is at Hanover Square and Souvlaki GR is at Old Slip. La Cense is on Barclay.

Sigmund Pretzel Shop Sets Up Cart At Bowling Green

I don’t wander down to Bowling Green unless I’m hot on the trail of lunch, but when I was down there Friday I noticed Sigmund Pretzel Shop had a cart parked right by the 4/5 subway station. Of course I had to go over and investigate! The delicious maker of all things pretzel on the Lower East Side will be parked there for the next five years, Monday through Friday, according to the bored-looking girl working the cart. They have various kinds of pretzels that are $3 and up, on top of a pretzel-wrapped hot dog and iced coffee. This is definitely going in the afternoon snack rotation.

Snapple Promotion Means Free Eddie’s, Souvlaki GR Today: You may or may not drink Snapple, but you might want to pretend to like the stuff today because they're teaming up with a couple of food trucks downtown. Eddie's Pizza Truck is set to have free food and beverage on Hudson St. and Souvlaki GR is doing the same thing at Old Slip. You have from 11 to 1 p.m. to eat for free...you know what to do.

The Schnitz Is Back, And A Possible Free Food Alert: Looks like the Schnitzel & Things truck is putting the Financial District back in its rotation - according to the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker they're on Water today. Cupcake Stop is on Varick and Sweetery is on Hudson, possibly giving food away for free at noon through a promotion with Yahoo giving away blackberry whoopie pies. Souvlaki Truck is, per usual, at Old Slip and if you want something cold you can hit up Van Leeuwen ice cream truck at Prince & Greene.
