Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck Adds New Combos Over Rice w/ Different Sauces
After a bumpy start, the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck seems to be finding their grove on 56th and Lex. A recent visit revealed some new menu additions, including an over rice menu and some new sauces.
After I placed my order for couscous with meguez ($9), I noticed this little print out with new a menu of plates served over basmati rice with a side salad. Though pricey, I have to admit that the Basmati Royale ($10) with chicken, beef, kofta, and merguez served over basmati rice with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, green peppers, and green olives sounds kind of freaking awesome.
That was the best picture I could get of my lunch (I know just what Rudy would say if he saw that pic, RIP Mr. McBagel). There are still some kinks to be worked out at the truck. My couscous arrived sans merguez (veggies only) and I happened to notice as they were sealing the container. I really liked the chicken couscous that I got a little while back. The couscous itself was fluffy and the chicken was perfectly grilled. Add the selection of roasted veggies and you have a very tasty meal. Merguez being, well, um, merguez, I figured that the couscous with merguez would be that much more tasty. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but with the exception of the sauces that Chef Samir added on top, I felt like the grilled chicken was actually more flavorful, maybe the chicken added more juices to the couscous itself.
In any case, do be sure to follow Mamacita’s advice and ask Chef Samir to load you up on sauces because they are great. Most are mayo-based, so if you are mayo-averse, be sure to let him know, but the Spicy Mint Sauce (it’s the green sauce you see above) is made without mayo and it’s quite good.
You can keep tabs on the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck via twitter or the ML Twitter Tracker but they seem to have found a permanent home at 56th and Lexington.
