Midtown Lunch

Today is round two of Mastercard’s Food Truck Feast promotion in which they give away free lunch from ten different food trucks in the city every Thursday for a month. This week, there’s a brand new roster of vendors, including Palenque and Sweetery both on 51st (bw Madison and Park), Wafels & Dinges and Red Hook Lobster in the Flatiron, and Bistro Truck and the new Morris Grilled Cheese just out of bounds on Lexington (bw 68th and 67th).

Plus even though the official rules say differently, I was told last week by one of the Mastercard reps that there is no limit to how many free lunches you can get. So even if you scored last Thursday, that doesn’t mean you can’t eat for free again today – and if you play your cards right, maybe you can even get free food at multiple locations today. But remember, there are only 500 free lunches from each truck, so arrive as early as possible to avoid a shut out. The promotion lasts from 11am-3pm. Freeloaders, start your engines!

If you like food trucks and you like free lunch you better hope you have a Mastercard. Starting today they’re running a promotion called Food Truck Feast and it essentially translates to free lunch, from a bunch of food trucks in New York, every single Thursday, for the next four weeks. All you have to do is show your Mastercard at one of the 10 participating food trucks and like Mastercard on Facebook or Tweet to them with the hashtag #PricelessNY. The free grub (up to 500 lunches per truck per day) will be offered from 11am-3pm with a rotating list of 10 food trucks every Thursday.

Each week’s line-up will be announced at the beginning of the week, and today’s participating trucks in Midtown are Kimchi Taco and Gorilla Cheese and both will be parked on 55th btw. 6+7th.  Gorilla Cheese (on 53rd between Lex and 3rd), and Comme Ci Comme Ca (also 53rd between Lex and 3rd), with both Bian Dang and Mexicue doing freebies in the Flatiron. (aka Midtown Lunchers)  Nothing, that’s what.  So when Google New York approached us about throwing a party for you guys at Food Gallery 32 in Koreatown we immediately said yes.  And all you have to do to enter to win is share your opinions about your favorite places in NYC on Google Places, their new personalized local recommendation engine.   (After all, you’re more than happy to do it in the comments here for free, why not do it over on Google Places and score some free food.)  Entering is easy.  Just start an account on Google Places (if you don’t have one already), fill out this form, and post a review.  That’s it.  Of course, the more reviews you write, the more chances you have to win.

We can’t say we love it when corporations co-opt food trucks for marketing purposes, but when free fried chicken is involved who are we to complain!? Thanks to Lunch’er Rachel for sending in this report…

In honor of Friday’s premiere of Top Secret Recipe, Country Music Television is giving out free KFC original recipe chicken out of a branded food truck in midtown. The truck was on 44th btw. B’way & 6th Ave. yesterday, but today it will be parked on 46th btw. B’way and 6th from 11am-4pm (or, until they run out). And tomorrow, the truck will return to its 44th street location.

This just in from Lunch’er Rachel…

Just like last year, the International Chinese Culinary Competition has taken over the the 46-to-47th street block of Times Square and today is the finals.  Technically food is for ticket holders only, but yesterday they were handing out samples to bystanders while the chefs were cooking, and there are stalls surrounding the competition, mostly on the west side of the street that were also giving food tastings and product samples of various Chinese eats. They’re just setting up now and the noodle stall definitely appears to be prepping samples (and the others seem to be following suit.) They haven’t started the cooking competition portion yet though so samples from that is unclear. Unfortunately the weather today is pretty crappy for an outdoor event but if there are free nibbles, I’m in!

To celebrate the sale of their 10,000th bibimbap burger, Social Eatz (on 53rd btw. 2+3rd) is giving away a free bibimbap burger to the first 30 customers, starting at 2:30pm sharp. So for all you free loaders who can take a late lunch (or will just save a bit of extra room) prepare to engage!
