Free Cupcake Alert: From the Treats Truck: "Our truck is going to be giving out free cupcakes for a new tv comedy called Traffic Light on FOX. We will be midtown in the afternoon, around 3-3:15pm. I think we'll be around the Newscorp area (on 47th and 6th), but people can watch for our tweets for the exact spots!" Cupcake-crazy freeloaders... prepare to engage.

Since this site is about finding lunch during the week we’ve completely tuned out all the crazy stuff restaurants are doing this Sunday… and yet this managed to catch our attention! “On February 3 the food shops and restaurants in Grand Central are throwing the very first Grand Central Terminal Super Bowl Bash. 11 of Grand Central’s food retailers, including Magnolia Bakery, Manhattan Chili Company, Michael Jordan’s The Steakhouse, Café Spice and Mendy’s, will gather in Vanderbilt Hall to give out samples and sell items that make ideal treats for Super Bowl Sunday.” Uh… did somebody say samples! The event takes place from 11:30 to 6:30pm. Freeloaders, prepare to engage.

Two Weeks of Free Coffee Starts Today: Seamless Web is doing their "Free Coffee" promotion again this year, and it kicks off in Midtown East today. All week long you can score free cups of coffee from a bunch of places east of 5th Ave, including Fresco on the Go, Devon & Blakely, Toasties and more. Free Cupcake Alert: If you're a fan of the Sweetery NYC truck, you'll want to check out Tenka this week for a free cupcake. It's free to have the coupon sent to your phone, but only the first hundred people who take it to the truck score the freebie. Sweetery spent the day downtown, but they should be on 9th Ave. and 59th Street from 4pm to 7:30pm tonight.

Free Squagel Alert: Cosi is now making "squagels" (aka square bagels) from scratch every day in their hearth (who knew!?), and to celebrate they're giving them away for free tomorrow morning (Weds, 1/26) from 8-9am. Considering that the bread is the best thing about Cosi, this might actually be worth it (as long as we don't have to say "squagel".) Find the location nearest you here>>

Word on the street is that classic Brooklyn pizzeria, Grimaldi’s is finally opening its Manhattan location in the Limelight Marketplace (on 6th Ave. btw. 20+21st) on Monday after months of delays. A quick call to confirm was met with the word ‘tentatively,’ but also with the much better words “free pizza.” All week – Yes, this week – from 12pm to 3pm, they will be handing out free slices to passersby. Freeloaders engage!

Free Cuban Sandwich Alert: Tenka has released a whole new group of freebies to places in South Midtown and the Flatiron, including a free sandwich at the Tina's Cuban on Madison (btw. 33+34th). Free Book Alert!?: This has absolutely nothing to do about food, but it's free stuff and we know how much you guys like free stuff! Today from 11am to 1pm if you check in on Four Square at the lobby of the Simon & Schuster building (on 6th ave. btw. 48+49th) and show the S&S rep in the lobby they'll give you a free copy of Gideon’s War (some book by a producer of 24.)

Here’s two things we just found about Crepe Monster, the new shop on the top floor of Food Gallery 32: 1) It’s owned and operated the people behind Bian Dang (aka NYC Cravings) is one of the owners of the place and 2) they are soft opening today at 1pm and serving free crepes all day long (or until you mooching hordes eat them out of house and home). It’s just a soft opening, and they’re hoping to get some feedback from ML freeloaders fans. During the soft opening they’ll just be serving up sweet crepes, but eventually they do plan on serving Asian inspired savory ones (bulgogi crepe anybody?) Freeloaders… engage!

Possible Free Crepe Alert?: Luncher "nychar" reports that the yet unopened Crepe Monster on the third floor of Food Gallery 32 has been serving free samples of their sweet and savory crepes around 7pm the last two evenings. If you're you're in the area around that time, it might be worth checking out- although she does qualify the report by saying that the deal is unofficial, so there are no guarantees!
