Around the ML Universe: Curious what's going on around the rest of the ML Universe?  Andrea found some amazing looking pork crackling in a Tribeca coffee shop,  I was tricked into loving vegan food by an all you can eat Ethiopian buffet, and in honor of National Sandwich Day, Jamie posted a list of her 9 favorite sandwiches in Philadelphia.

Contributor Stalking: Lasagna, Pie, Cemitas

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (They’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

_MG_4293 - Version 2

Ultraclay was in North Carolina where he had some pretty amazing looking lasagna, Brownie hit up Four & Twenty Blackbirds from some pie, and their new cider spritzer (and will most likely be at this weekend’s Big Gay Ice Cream Truck farwell party), Amy posts a video of herself making caramel apples, Danny enjoys a chocolate croissant from Patisserie Claude, and the notoriously picky Chris H. gives 5 stars (!?!) to Kelvin Slush on Yelp.

Elsewhere in the ML universe, Jamie turns the Philly site over to Nick (from My Inner Fatty) who visits a Caribbean food truck with a great stew chicken. Andrea finds a link to her childhood at Adrienne’s Pizza Bar downtown. And I discover the joys of the cemita in L.A.’s Chinatown.

Danny had some decent dim sum at Royal Seafood in Manhattan’s Chinatown, Brownie was back at Shopsin’s eating ebilskivers (aka chocolate doughnut holes?!), Ultraclay somehow managed to score a reservation at the amazing looking Morini, Amy had eggs benedicts made with scones at Alice’s Tea Cup, and Chris H. had a great bowl of gamjatang at Guh Shee Gee in Flushing.

Curious about the other areas of the ML universe? Andrea discovers comfort food goodness Downtown at the Ear Inn, Jamie turns the Philly site over to Nick from My Inner Fatty who lets us know about a great Chinese spot inside a Sheraton Hotel, while I’m in Los Angeles wishing I went to college at UCLA.

Contributor Stalking: Yes, I’m Under 40

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (They’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Pies 'N' Things Chicken Biscuit

Blondie and Brownie checked out this year’s Epicurious’ Ultimate Lunch Break, and were (naturally) big fans of Pies N Thighs, Ultraclay has launched a new tumblr account showcasing his photography, Danny decided to see what happens when you mix cheap chinese food and wine,  Amy is a big fan of Guerilla Ice Cream, and Chris H. has been busy defending the Vendy Awards on Yelp.

In the other sections of the site… Andrea discovered *another* biriyani cart in the Fidi, Jamie is taking advantage of some Oktoberfest specials in Philly, and I’m busy in L.A. stuffing my face at all you can eat Korean bbq joints. Finally, just wanted to say a quick thanks to Food and Wine Magazine, who included me in their list of “40 Big Thinkers Under 40” list in the November issue of the magazine (emphasis on “big”?) Kind of shock, considering that not much thought went into creating Midtown Lunch, beyond “How can I come up with an excuse to stuff my fat face every day at lunch?” Anyway, it’s a huge honor to be in such good company. Check out the full list on Eater. My portion of the piece is after the jump…

Danny downed a Shack Stack on the UWS (which is also available here in Midtown, btw) while Ultraclay was eating some delicious sausage at the Vanderbilt in Brooklyn. Blondie and Brownie visited Eddie’s Sweet Shop in Forest Hills to train for some ice cream eating challenge in San Francisco, and hit up Parked on Governor’s Island– which they decided could learn a lot of lessons from the Vendy Awards.

Curious about the other Midtown Lunch cities? Andrea just discovered a decent Korean lunch in Chinatown, Jamie is all about this boozy bread pudding she had in the Reading Terminal Market, and here’s Zach getting excited about… fake chicken. (WTF, dude!?)

Brownie was all about the chicken biscuit at Pies N Thighs in Brooklyn, while Clay checked out the staff at Eataly. Danny ate 25 spicy chicken nuggets from Wendy’s and survived to tell the tale, Amy enjoyed her (albeit small) 3 course lunch from ABC Kitchen, and Chris H. swears you will have a good time at 153 Fusion Po-cha in Flushing. Curious what’s going on in other parts of the ML universe? Zach rubs it in again with yet another post about the amazing Thai food in Los Angeles, Jamie says no to eyeball tacos in Philly, and Andrea revisits the banh mi cart on Pearl St.

Morning Bun
Sorry, but you have to go all the way to S.F. for this

This past weekend Brownie was in Maine eating ice cream, while her partner in crime Blondie was in San Francisco eating some amazing look sweets from Tartine and Bi-Rite Creamery. Danny was in Chinatown discovering a cart that serves long tzi tang (a sweet Chinese treat made from peanuts and spun sugar), while Clay hit up Jin Fong for some Dim Sum. Chris H is a big fan of the pizza at Totale in the East Village, and here is a video of Amy making a peanut butter and banana sandwich in Providence.

Contributor Stalking: Best Breakfast Sandwich Ever

Do you wonder what the ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (They’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Yes, that’s maple bacon and eggs, sandwiched between mac and cheese pancakes

Brownie discovers the “King of all Breakfast Sandwiches” at Shopsin’s, Ultraclay was in Philly eating a delicious Mexican brunch, Amy made panna cotta with the Dessert Truck, and Danny gets stomach issues after eating at 5 blogger recommended spots (not in Midtown, for the record!)  Want some more stuff to drool over? Jamie had this amazing looking sandwich with brisket, fried egg, provolone, and horseradish in Philly, Andrea tries the Downtown Bon Chon that was just stripped of its name, and I got sisig from a Filipino food truck in L.A. (don’t be mad.)

Hello DBGB Thai Sausage! Photo by Food in Mouth

Brownie tries “The Sneaky Pete” at Shopsin’s (3 poached eggs over spicy garlic bread topped with jack, bacon, tomato and scallions) while Blondie discovers that the Van Leeuwen brothers are now serving palm sugar ice cream. Ultraclay had a delicious birthday dinner at Maialino, Danny loved the bone marrow and thai sausage at DBGB, and congrats to Amy whose Stupidly Simple Snack videos launch on Hungry Nation tomorrow!

Pizza on the left, Pie on the right.

Danny from Food in Mouth was on St. Marks checking out Totale Pizza and Xi’an Famous Foods (both look amazing), Ultraclay enjoyed the smoked meat from Mile End, Amy went to Meatopia on Governor’s Island, and Blondie and Brownie lived up to their sweet tooth inspired name this week, trying the pie ala mode at Four & Twenty Blackbirds in Brooklyn, and the new cupcake flavors at Robicelli’s
