Chubby Chinese Girl Available for Delivery

If you’ve been wanting to try the Chubby Chinese Girl, Cer Te’s February sandwich of the month, but didn’t want to leave your desk they will now deliver it to you.  They originally wouldn’t deliver the sandwich because they couldn’t keep up with demand, and didn’t think it would hold up well… but now that things have settled down a bit it looks like they’re going to try. Welcome news considering the weather, and the fact that there’s only one week left before the sandwich goes away forever!

Cer Te Hits Pay Dirt Again With Chubby “Vietnamese” Sandwich

It might have sold out on Tuesday, but I finally got my chance to try out the “Chubby Chinese Girl” February Midtown Lunch special sandwich from Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th),  submitted by the Chubby Chinese Girl herself. Duck and hoisin sauce. I don’t need to say more, but I will. Marinated duck, chili sauce, hoisin sauce, cilantro, cucumber, and pickled radishes on a baguette for $8.95. Yes, please.

Duck Sandwich Sellout: It's been a hot minute since Midtown Lunchers have had access to a duck sandwich for under $10, and it showed at Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) yesterday. Their new Feburary sandwich special, the "Chubby Chinese Girl", sold out shortly after 1pm yesterday. Go early if you're hoping to score one today.

Cer Te Introduces New Duck Sandwich Today

Last month Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) launched a contest to design one of their special monthly sandwiches, and the first one debuts today. The duck sandwich with cilantro, a bit of hoisin sauce and a dab of chili, topped with cucumber and pickled radish strips was created by Lunch’er Cindy (aka ChubbyChineseGirl) and she got a special preview of her creation on Friday. Naturally she gave it a 5 star review, but we’re curious to hear what you unbiased lunch’ers think (and how it stacks up to the duck pastrami sandwich from FreeFoods NYC.) Early adopters, let us know in the comments. The sandwich costs $8.95, and will be available Monday through Friday until the end of the month.

Cer Te Picks Sandwich Challenge Winners!

Two weeks ago, Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) challenged the Midtown Lunch community to come up with special sandwich ideas for each of the next three months. (Cer Te has had a “special sandwich” every month since we launched the ML Sandwich Challenge last January.) Well… they got a ton of entries, and after careful consideration here are the three winners!

Cer Te Wants to Name Their Sandwich of the Month After You

Fresh off their “Best Sandwiches in Midtown” victory in the 2009 Reader’s poll, Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) has decided to up the ante by turning over their sandwich of the month to you… the ML readers.  They sent over the details in an email this afternoon:

We’re happy to announce that we’re taking the Midtown Lunch Sandwich Challenge in a new direction, this year we want to challenge YOU! Starting this week, we will be accepting sandwich ideas sent to sandwich@certenyc.com. Starting February (which is actually our one year anniversary creating sandwiches for Midtown Lunch) we will choose one sandwich per month to be featured- the sandwich will of course be named for its creator. In some circumstances, if we see fit to quality of the sandwich, we will modify it to Cer te standards- but ultimately it will fit the vision of it’s creator. We will meet with the creator and give them a tasting of their sandwich before we debut it to the public, and at that time we will ask for their recommended changes and perfect the sandwich!

So there it is. Got a dream sandwich you want to see Cer Te tackle? Email it to sandwich@certenyc.com

Leg of Lamb Gyro Reminder: If you missed it last week, today is leg of lamb "gyro" day at Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th.) They ran out pretty quickly last Wednesday (despite it being the day before Thanksgiving) but say that they're ready today.

Cer Te’s Off the Menu Leg of Lamb “Gyro” is the Perfect Pre-Thanksgiving Lunch

Tomorrow is quite possibly the biggest eating day of the year for most of us (well, biggest historically sanctioned eating day of the year).  And while some of you might starve yourselves, or “eat light” as it were, in the hours leading up to the big day I like to take a different approach.  It’s what I call “preparing for the onslaught”.  Your stomach can’t go from salad to gorgefest in a 24 hour period.  You’ve got to ease it in.  In past years I’ve recommended great Midtown turkey sandwiches, or hitting up an all you can eat buffet, but this year I’m going in a different direction.  Lamb.  And more specifically, an amazing off-the-menu lamb sandwich from Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) that is only available on Wednesdays.  Well, would you look at that!  Today is Wednesday…

Pizza by Cer Te Opening Pushed Back: Bad news in the wake of yesterday's post about the (outrageously greasy) Tuscan Cheesesteak from Cer Te. The opening of Pizza by Cer te, which will carry the sandwich permanently, has been pushed back to early 2010. So if you want on in on this thing before next year, you might want to head to Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) before the end of the month.

Cer Te’s Tuscan Cheesesteak Displaces Schnitzel Burger as Greasiest Sandwich in Midtown

DSC04828

A couple weeks ago I kind of flipped out gushed over the new fried burger being sold at the Schnitzel & Things Truck.  I got pretty excited after eating the grease soaked monstrosity- not just because it tasted really good, but also because its unabashed grossness was quite simply unmatched by any Midtown Lunch I have ever had (and I have had quite a few.)  Well, in a surprising turn, the schnitzel burger’s reign atop the grossest-sandwich-in-Midtown heap was short lived.  Because last week I tried Cer Te’s October entry in the Midtown Lunch Sandwich Challenge, the “Tuscan Cheesesteak” ($8.95), and it is without a doubt the most deliciously gross, out of control gut bomb, I have ever had in Midtown, in sandwich form.

Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) has had a long history of creating sandwich craziness for the ML Sandwich challenge.  But the “Tuscan Cheesesteak” takes the cake.  So much so I devised a list of reasons why you shouldn’t eat this sandwich.  That list, plus a closer look at the madness is after the jump…
