Flatiron Lunch: M Thai for Another Thai Option in Flatiron West

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

After my posts about Pongsri and Regional Thai, FL’er Stevenp said it was worth the trek to 8th Avenue for M Thai. He even offered recommendations on specific dishes, so how could I not try it? Luckily, they deliver, so you don’t necessarily have to walk there.

Pizza by Cer Te Turns Chicken Saltimbocca into One Heckuva Good Sandwich

Some of my favorite sandwiches take different dishes and put them between two slices of bread in a way that improves on the original. The Spaniard at Amish Market is one example of this – putting Spanish charcuterie in sandwich form. A better example is the Thanksgiving leftover sandwich (I’ve never had a bad one). So when I was at Pizza by Cer Te last month to pick up their Thanksgiving slice, I was intrigued by their chicken saltimbocca sandwich, a riff on the Italian classic. This week, I finally got a chance to try it.

Kobeyaki is Worth Going to for the Condiments Alone

Last week we put out a call out for new lunchers. Here’s a report from one of our potential new contributors, Jarret…

Kobeyaki (on 40th & 6th) has quickly become one of my all time favorite Midtown lunch establishments. While I often end up spending a little more than the ML limit ($13), I am never left disappointed. I like to mix it up between one of their burgers or buns, but I always order a side of the sweet potato tempura fries. What really makes Kobeyaki stand out, however, is their selection of sauces. They offer teriyaki ketchup, wasabi mayo, spicy mayo and plenty of sriracha. If you thought it couldn’t get any better, it can – not only do they offer all of these sauces, but they put them out in dispensers for sauce-loving lunchers like myself to overindulge in. As you can see, they offer plenty of containers for patrons to fill up with the sauce(s) of their choice. A few times, I have found a particular sauce empty, and upon notifying an employee, the sauce is refilled within minutes – impressive.

Soom Soom Vegetarian Makes Some Changes to Their Menu

Earlier this week we put a call out for new lunchers. Here’s another report from one of our potential new contributors, Kaitlin…

Some days I like to trick myself into thinking I’m eating healthy which generally means trying to stuff as many vegetables into a meal as possible. My closest lunch option on these days is Soom Soom (46th btwn 5th and 6th) where you can get “unlimited” salad bar options. Walking in, I noticed Soom Soom had made some changes since the last time I was there.

Luncher Kaitlin Reports: New Roast Kitchen Coming to Madison

Earlier this week we put a call out for new lunchers. Here’s an early report from one of our potential new contributors, Kaitlin…

There’s another Roast Kitchen outpost opening between 48th and 49th street on Madison Avenue. The initial review of the original location on 7th and 49th seemed to think that the meat was the worst part of the meal but here’s hoping things have gotten better since then. Either way, I’m excited to have more meat and veggie options for lunch!

Roast Kitchen

  • 740 Seventh Ave (at 49th St.), 212-399-9100
  • Coming soon to Madison Ave btw. 48+49th

Flatiron Wishlist: Mumbai Puts Me in the Mood for Dal Tadka

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

We are in trouble. As the regular readers already know, I love Indian food (and Pakistani and Bangladeshi and Nepalese…really, anything from that region of the world.) The problem is that over Thanksgiving I visited India!!! And as crazy as it seems, I am now more obsessed with Indian food. In the past, I tried to limit my Curry Hill posts to once a month, but it will be hard moving forward after eating Indian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 9 days. Did you know that dosas make an amazing breakfast?

Ground Central is a Cool New Coffee Shop, But is it a Good Lunch Option?

Ground Central Coffee Company, a small coffee shop that opened on 52nd St. (btw Lex+3rd) last month, boasts a lunch menu with sandwiches that sound really good. And with price tags just below and sometimes above the ML limit, you’d expect them to be really good. But before we get to that, let me just say that Ground Central is a really cool coffee shop. It’s got a nice drink menu of coffees and teas and a nicely decorated interior with plenty of seating. It’s definitely somewhere I’d go to relax over a hot drink. They’ve also got a bunch of tasty-looking baked goods like madeleines, chocolate chip cookies, and financiers. And when you buy a sandwich or salad, you get a free drink.

But is it a good lunch option?
