A place rarely mentioned. Melange on 39th by 3rd. Really good sandwiches and an option of getting 3 of their cold items as a platter. Everything is under $8 and comes with a cup of soup.

Dave:
Top happy choices:
Polish Truck
Freddy King of Falafel
53/7th Halal Guys
Bian Dang
Hing Won (for both Chinese and sandwiches)
and as always, the Sombrero cart-
Dave:
Clarke’s Standard. Forgot they’re in-bounds.
Also, since there will probably be a cheesesteak category, Steaks and Crepes does a fine job for a not-quite-ridiculous price, despite misspelling “Philly” on half their signage.

I recently tried Clarke’s standard burger. While the size was on the smaller side, I thought the burger was better than Shake shack’s.

Cafe 37
On 37th btw 6th and 5th, a very undervalued spot making great burrito’s and tacos. The hot plates are awesome too.

Every one of my favorites lie out of bounds of “Midtown proper” in one direction or another… only faves in bounds are Certe, Num Pang and the Hallo Berlin cart.
And of course FIKA, home of gorgeous european babes with accents.

I think Food Gallery 32 has still been a solid choice in 2013, so that’s my Korean pick (also useful when you’re an ADD eater like I can be). I second Minar for Indian.

and if it werent obvious…:
Moo Shu Grill (Asian/Chinese)
Tacos y Quesadillas (Mexican)i guess both qualify as street food as well.

i second Treehaus on 51st and 3rd.
the hot bar is unparelled and it makes dishes look like child’s play. where else can you get stuff like shark steak and bone marrow? anyone?staff seems inexperienced but i think they opened this year.
i also enjoy the hot sandwiches there. unparelled. need i say more?

MiJo:
El Rey del Sabor (49th and Park)
Wafels and Dinges
Hop Won
And bring back the food truck Mecca on 47th so I don’t have to haul my lazy butt so far to eat… -

Midtown East:
Little Italy Pizza – I think it’s the best pizza in the city.
Pizza by Certe – their pizza is a close second seriously outstanding… some of the best stuff in midtown, especially their breakfast pizza (must try)
Clarke’s Standard – solid, cheap version of P.J. Clarke’s with Sir Kensington’s Ketchup and Root Beer BBQ Sauce
Melt Shop – the buttermilk fried chicken is insanely good, and just the regular standard with tomato soup is perfect
Pampano Taqueria – a little pricey, but the tacos are delicious
Treehaus – great buffet, solid sandwiches
Potbelly’s – chain but amazing value-

They actually covered it when it first opened. I remember it being pretty good, but I haven’t been there recently.

I say Treehaus. I just had their pork belly which was awsome with crisp skin and all. They also carry awsome desserts from various bakeries around the city including doughssant from Chikalicious. The only thing I wish they’d improve on is their bread quality on sandwiches.
