  • Burgers: Five Guys – Everyone is on the Clarke’s Standard train. I tried out one of their lunch combos and, while the burger was good, Five Guys left me more satisfied.

Ramen: Hide-Chan. Ippudo would probably get the nod if I worked in Midtown West, but then again they’re above the ML limit..

Street Meat: Uncle Gussy’s. Always and forever.

    Japanese: Cafe Zaiya.

    Chinese: Hop Won.

Indian: Curry House/Minar/Whatever the place on 44th and 3rd is currently calling themselves.

Going on 4 years and I still haven’t found good pizza in Midtown East. Since someone mentioned Little Italy, I should give that place a try since it’s always packed when I walk by.

Pizza Rustica on 2nd btwn 43rd and 44th has pretty decent pizza. Definitely not the best ever but it’s pretty good. I’ve also heard the pizza at Previti Pizza on 41st and Lex is good, and the times I’ve been in there it looks really good, but I’ve only had their chicken parm sandwich (which is good).

      • I’ve been to Rustica a few times since my office is really close by. Their pizza is alright, but nothing to write home about imo. I’ve also heard good things about Preveti as well, but never been there.

Yeah it’s definitely nothing special but it’s decent, and I’ve certainly had much worse. I recently had a slice of their eggplant parm pizza and quite enjoyed it actually.

    • I’m sure Little Italy is fine, as a slice place, but to call it the best pizza in the city is a bold statement. Best slice? Perhaps there’s a case, but I’ve never been (and there are some outstanding slice places in the Village).

      • Not that you asked, but I do like Five Guys. It’s just more packed with annoying people at lunch, and you can’t get your burger done medium-rare, or even medium.

      • I think Clarke’s tastes better than Five Guys. The burgers are thicker and, like you said, they cook them to lower temps than well done. I found it a bit on the small side, though. Call me fat, but if I could get a Five Guys sized Clarke’s Standard burger in the ML limit then they’d get my vote.

Plus, Five Guys has fresh jalapenos which I love on a burger.

Clarke’s has better quality meat for sure but as you said they’re on the small side. Plus I like the selection of toppings at Five Guys, especially those fresh jalapenos. For the prices they charge I’d rather just go to Five Guys and get all those tasty toppings.

I’ll throw Joy Curry on 46th between 3rd and Lex into the mix. I’ve been enjoying their chicken vindaloo about once a week, and at less than $10 for the chicken, rice, veggie side, and naan bread, how can you go wrong?

Continuing from the burger trail above, i vote Treehaus for the best burgers and sandwiches.
Clarke’s – too pricey for its portions (but they are good)
Five guys – is five guys
i get the JME burger from Treehaus and its nothing like you ever tried.

    Sandwiches, try the fontina cheesesteak.

I looooove Treehaus! They have the most amazing buffet and just yesterday, I got to sample their Bacon Nutella crepes. It is to die for!
Nominate Treehaus for best buffet and crepes.
Also, you can ask the chef to make you anything and he’ll have it on the buffet for you!

  • Uncle Nick’s on 8th and 29th. Best and cheapest Greek food for lunch in the area. As for Pizza, Pizza Suprema.

Mayhem and Stout – Incredible sandwiches, affordable and a fantastic staff.
