No. 7 Sub Has New Sandwiches, And Will Deliver Into Midtown

Great news for Midtown fans of No 7 Sub, who don’t have time to make it all the way down to the Ace Hotel during lunchtime (aka most of us.) Starting this week they’ve expanded their delivery radius all the way up to 45th street, 3rd ave to 8th ave. And they’ve added a few new sandwiches, like a cana de cabra cheese sub with broccoli sauce, pickled red onions, and fried chickpeas and a pork & shrimp chorizo sub with pickled rhubarb, sweet potatos, and cilantro. The only bad news? Delivery is only available after the lunch rush, from 2pm to 7pm Monday through Friday. So it’s really just available for a late lunch or early dinner. Ordering is available over the phone or through Delivery.com

Midtown Happy Hour: Special St. Paddy’s Video at Mulligan’s Pub

If you like to eat, chances are you like to drink (read: a lot of you are freakin’ lushes), so I thought maybe it was time to introduce a happy hour column to the site. Every week, our Happy Hour Correspondent posts about a different bar in Midtown that fits the Midtown Lunch mentality: unhealthy food, not lame (unless it’s lame in a cool way), and most importantly… cheap. This week, instead of our usual bar review, we decided to offer a special video for St. Patty’s Day!

In anticipation of every beer drinkers favorite holiday this Saturday, I convinced Clay and Blondie to join me at one of the Irish pubs in Midtown that doesn’t have chicken picatta or lobster ravioli on the menu. Mulligan’s Pub is a good old fashioned Irish bar on Madison and 39th that’s been serving Grand Central commuters for almost two decades.

Clay captured it all on video and so we present our first video special to all our readers after the jump. Please drink, eat, and be merry tomorrow. Enjoy and sláinte!

Kimchi Taco Truck Makes a Mean “Asian-Style” Falafal

Kimchi Taco Truck line

The big falafel news this week was, of course, the news that Freddy the Falafel King of Astoria is now set up in Midtown on 53rd & Park.  But did you know that the Kimchi Taco Truck also does falafel?  Their tofu/edamame falafel has been a popular menu option for awhile, and recently I learned that they have tweaked the recipe to give it a little more punch and to make it crispier and a little closer to the Israeli/Mediterranean falafel that’s many of us are used to. I’m always up for falafel so I had to check it out. Read more »

Flatiron Lunch: Boqueria Has $10 Lunchtime Sandwiches!?

Every Friday we go south of the ML boundaries in search of a delicious lunch. Sometimes it’s Murray Hill south or the Flatiron District, sometimes Gramercy and everything in between- but we just like to call it Flatiron Lunch.

If you haven’t noticed, I am a little bit on a kick looking for sit-down restaurants that unexpectedly have ML budget friendly lunch options. (If you have noticed and don’t like it, I can tell you now that it ends next week!) I think I enjoy the feeling of triumph knowing that I got a great lunch for a fraction of what I would pay to eat there for dinner. My latest find is Boqueria – the well-loved and upscale Spanish Tapas Restaurant with outposts in Flatiron and SoHo. And no, this is not a post about a lunch of two small tapas plates. That would just be too sad.

Flatiron News: Mark Your Calendars – Mad Sq Eats: I think the beautiful weather this week led me to thinking about how long we'd have to wait for the glorious semi-annual occasion that is Mad Sq Eats. Turns out it's scheduled for May 4 – June 1 and will include many returning favorites: Roberta’s Pizza, Asiadog, Momofuku Milk Bar, ilili, Sigmund Pretzelshop, Bar Suzette, Calexico, Nunu Chocolates, and Birch Coffee. Personally, I am hoping for Pies 'N Thighs' chicken biscuit (last seen in the Fall 2010.) Expect updates closer to launch day.

Street Vendors Defend Themselves Against Nasty Comments

Remember when Dan Biederman, the President of the 34th Street Partnership, called our favorite lunch vendors “ugly” and “terrible citizens” a few weeks back? Well, the vendors aren’t going to take those sort of demeaning attacks. Today at 10:30am, dozens of vendors will join the Street Vendor Project to rally outside the Partnership offices on Sixth Avenue (between 40th and 41st Street) demanding an apology from Biederman. If you can slip out of work and want to show your support, come on down.  Vendor Power!!
