PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Monica”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. We had the privilege of meeting this week’s luncher at the Vendy Awards. She’s not only the daughter of the owners of the Chimichury Malecon truck, she’s also a Midtown Lunch’er!

Name: Monica

Age: 24

Occupation: Pharmaceutical Advertising

Where in Midtown do you Work?: 42nd between 2nd and 3rd ave (Daily News Building)

Favorite Kind of Food: Indian, Peruvian,Shawarma, Pork dumplings, Plantains, risotto (only when I make it), my moms rice and black bean, anything with bacon, Italian cold cuts, turkey burgers, chicken burgers, kobe burgers, Chimichury’s (I love burgers!), yam fries and yucca, cous cous, latkes, scallops, crab cakes, Almond butter, dates, popcorn.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Not a fan of clams or octopus. I want to give Korean another chance, but so far I’m not won over

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Naya Express (43rd and 3rd) I love everything on their menu especially their hummus, kibbe and beef kebab, Rickshaw Dumpling’s Chicken Thai Basil dumpling, Schnitzel & Things warm potato salad, Energy Kitchen turkey burger, Pio Pio on 44th and 10th, their chicken is ridiculously good and so is their garlic sauce and Daisy May’s for BBQ and sweet tea.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Liati’s in the Daily News Building where I work (on 42nd btw. 2+3rd), its our pseudo cafeteria. My go to is their Asian salad, when I’m not feeling creative. I also end up eating Dean’s pizzeria old fashion square pizza too many times in one week, but its worth it.

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Kosher Deluxe which (on 46th btw. 5+6th) of course for the Shawarma and falafel on pita and its such a deal for under $5 bucks

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? California. I went to visit for first time 2 months ago. I could get used having In N out as my go to burger place and the Mexican food is legit. I could definitely see myself in Napa Valley/ San Fran or even LA, just for the fact that a lot of veggies and fruit can be literally be picked from your backyard and next time I go I definitely want to try out the LA food trucks.

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? I’m always in the mood for good food and a good deal, any recommendations in midtown to get the best bang for my buck? Also like I said I want to give Korean a second chance, leaning more towards Korean BBQ and I already tried Korilla BBQ…

Got a recommendation for Monica? Put it in the comments. And, as always, if you want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate) email editor@midtownlunch.com.
