PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Jennie”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Jennie, the lunch’er who tipped us off to Bann Next Door a few weeks ago.  (Thanks again!)

Name: Jennie

Age: Sometimes I have the food habits of a 13 year old boy who plays a lot of video games (pizza and coca-cola with flamin’ hot cheetos as a side dish, and a snickers bar for dessert).

Occupation: Advertising Operations Manager

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Parade in Midtown East (near Grand Central/United Nations)

Favorite Kind of Food: Tuna sashimi, fancy sandwiches, a good burger, pepperoni pizza with a lot of Tabasco, spam and eggs on rice with nori and kimchee, lobster rolls, fish tacos/burritos, donkatsu, soon doo boo, arepas, pho…I can keep going.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Licorice

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Crisp Africa wrap (I’d eat there more often if it was cheaper), Roast Duck Noodle Soup at Mee Noodles (2nd Ave. btw. 48+49th), Any of the noodle dishes at Menchanko-tei (on 45th btw. Lex+3rd), fish burritos at Pampano Taqueria (on 3rd btw. 49+50th), the cold buffet at Amish market (on 45th btw. 2+3rd) has a good selection of prepared salads that uses unusual vegetables (like jicama, different types of mushrooms), The Health Nut on 2nd Ave. btw. 44+45th (I like their curries but they also have a nice buffet of vegetarian options), and Oms/b (on 45th btw. Lex+3rd).

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Pampano Taqueria, Amish Market, Asian Station on 52nd btw. Park+Lex (it’s just okay, but one of my lunch buddies refuses to leave her block for lunch sometimes), Subway (their vegetarian subs are pretty satisfying)

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Hawaiian Island Grill on 53rd btw. 2+3rd (they are so nice there too!), Barros Luco (on 52nd and 2nd). Margon (on 46th btw. 6+7th) is next on my list.

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? It’s a toss-up between Tokyo and Thailand. I love all types of foods but I esp. love Japanese bento boxes. I chose Thailand for the food carts I have yet to experience and the beaches (so I can relax on the beach during my lunch hour, of course)

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Where can I get good soon doo boo in midtown east? Someone tell the lunch gods to open a good Korean food establishment in midtown east!

Anybody have a good Midtown East spicy tofu stew recommendation for Jennie? Put it in the comments. As always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • it’s pretty tough finding korean food out here. ceh: I forgot about busan, thanks…i’m up for trying bad korean food even! Ambitious: i like your blog (i’m bookmarking your recipe for fish tacos)! Mkim1206, Mamacita: word. Sarah: fist bump. Fred: shouldn’t you save that for someone who openly admits to their fetishes, namely Wayne? Wayne: it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the licorice again. just kidding. thanks everyone! happy lunching!

    • Jennie… that is disturbing if you are quoting Buffalo Bill … and even more disturbing if you’re quoting Eminem… yikes

  • Also the power of flamin’ hot cheetos…it is pure awesome.

  • Jennie: nah.

if you’re profiled, then you’re “freak of the week” :-)

  • RE: ” … the power of flamin’ hot cheetos…it is pure awesome.”

YEAH, I agree. But they turn your fingers weird colors.

And by the way, BLACK LICORICE is for REAL American men.

RED LICORICE is for wimpy American females, and …. whatever.

    Carrion, please.

    • what a douche.

      • I don’t douche, but please tell me Wellerfan, how does it feel when YOU do it?

        Is it fun?

Does it make you get off?

I mean, it seems that you are possessed by all things pertaining to douches and douche bags.

Surely you could enlighten us upon the delicate practice of douching.

        YES??

        Carrion, please.

      • It requires you to have spiky hair, orange tan, and a choice of Ed Hardy, TapouT, or Affliction shirts. You are also required to perform rhythmic fist pumping to trance or dj big beats as you talk about how much you bench or how much money you make.

  • i’m with kc. licorice is awesome! crows and black jellybeans! i also like fennel, dr pepper, porchetta, and sweet italian sausages.

you get an A+ for listing Pho on your faves list and for the plug about Crisp’s Africa wrap. that one’s my favorite on their menu.
