Generic Breakfast Cart Now Serving Cupcakes?!

DSC00130

It’s like cupcake day on Midtown Lunch! (Between this and the comment section of today’s Profiled Luncher, we sincerely apologize to all the haters.)  Last week we got a tip from Lunch’er “Michael” that some generic breakfast cart on 53rd and 6th had started selling cupcakes- and seeing as I work in the area and have a certain weakness for cupcakes*, I couldn’t help but go check it out.

Free Pizza Alert: It's National Pizza Month (who knew?) and according to the website I Dream of Pizza, Villa Pizza is celebrating by giving away free slices today to any customer who likes them on Facebook and prints out their coupon? There is one location in Port Authority, and another in Times Square (on 42nd btw.  7+8th.) Freeloaders with low pizza standards, engage.

PROFILE: Midtown Lunch'er "Felicia"

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Felicia, a logistics manager (wha?) who loves pizza but can’t stand chicken. (I think we might be able to get behind that…)

Name: Felicia

Age: 35

Occupation: Logistics Manager

Where in Midtown do you Work?: Garment Center

Favorite Kind of Food: Can you say cheese please, anything with cheese! I love pizza(I am a Brooklyn girl)

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Chicken, we had a disagreement years ago, so we broke up! Actually I got sick twice and never ate it again!

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: My new obsession are all these great new trucks! My favorite is Mexicue. The short Rib tacos are the best! They usually park near Bryant park once a week. A few weeks back I ventured over to the Schnitzel & Things truck on 46th and let me tell you! I see what the buzz is about! As far as favorite pizza places go nothing will ever beat Brooklyn pizza in my eyes but for midtown here are my picks, it is all about the mood. If you want a thin crust with lots of yummy combo’s for toppings I suggest Lazzara’s (on 38th btw. 6+7th). If you are in the mood for a cheesy salty inexpensive slice the $1.00 pizza at 2 brother’s on 8th avenue is the way to go!

Urban Lobster Shack Now Serving A Split Tail Lobster Roll

DSC09096

I was in Midtown on Friday getting “caught up” on all the lunches I’ve missed out on since moving to L.A., and between an amazing souvlaki on a stick (with lemon juice and salt) from Uncle Gussy’s (on 51st and Park) and out of control good bowl of tonkotsu ramen from Hide Chan I couldn’t help but notice this little sign posted in Urban Lobster Shack (in the basement food court on 3rd Ave. and 52nd).  I’m already a fan of their $10 lobster roll, and this one is clearly above the ML price limit, but I couldn’t resist seeing exactly what it was that extra $2 gets you.

Ying Du Back Open, Letter Grade "Still Pending"

yingdu-pending-grade

Last week we told you that Ying Du was hit by the DOH and forced to close. It’s now back open and they’re getting ready to see what kind of DOH grade they’re going to get! I’m really interested to see what kind of grade they get since the DOH has been pretty harsh on them in the past about roast meats. So what do you all think? I’m thinking we might see a crowd favorite get a B or C! And if they get an A, someone start shooting down those flying pigs.

The McRib Going National In November?: The internet is abuzz today after a Wall Street Journal article revealed that McDonald's elusive, and quite possibly magical, McRib sandwich will be available nationwide for the first time in 16 years starting Nov. 2. If anything can get me excited for a trip to McDonald's, it's the combination of tangy BBQ sauce, onions, pickles and a nondescript, amorphous protein.

Rock Center Concourse Dunkin Makes the Grade?!

DSC00134

While Midtown Lunch generally isn’t pro-chain, as a Rock Center denizen who’s pulled more than an occasional late night at the office, I’ll admit that I’m appreciative of the 24 hour Dunkin Donuts right down stairs by the subway entrance. Let’s be honest though, this DD is an open storefront just a quick flight of stairs away from the (rat infested) subway tracks. Nevertheless they managed to pull an A from the DOH. Nice work guys.

Get a Ton of Food From Chola For $5: Today's InBundles deal is a good one: fill a to go container full of food from Chola's buffet (on 58th btw. 2+3rd) plus get naan and dessert for just $5. Zach liked their chaat, but never tried their $14 all you can buffet or their $10 take out lunch.  Clearly this 50% off deal is just the push we needed to check it out!

Checking Out the Non-Veg Platter at the Green Taste Desi Food Truck

Green Taste Truck

A couple weeks ago Danny wondered if Indian food carts have left the steam table joints like Minar in the dust? I’ve been a Minar frequenter for over 7 years now, but other than the Biryani Cart, I haven’t tried many of the midtown Indian carts. After reading Lunch’er Devina’s recent write up of the truck formerly known as Green Taste (aka The Desi Truck), I had to go check this newish truck out.
