Throughout the past couple of months while office workers trickled back into the Financial District after the hurricane, and others took extended holiday vacations, Tacos Morelos continued parking in its regular spot at the corner of Wall & Pearl streets. Their tacos got a thumbs up from me, but I was curious about their sandwiches and headed over for a torta.

Many of you who read this site do so to find lunches that are both cheap and tasty, so consider my assessment of Roll and Go‘s rotisserie chicken at its new location on Fulton St. (btw. William & Dutch) as a public service announcement: Your $2.75 can be better spent elsewhere. Read more »

If you’ve walked down John St. off of Broadway in the past couple of weeks, it was probably hard to miss this banner marking the new location of Go Go Curry hanging from scaffolding in front of where Cajun Maggie’s used to be. The block has become slightly less awful as plywood came down from the Fulton Transit Station construction on the corner, and it’s nice to see a new lunch spot going into one of the many empty storefronts.

Popular Smorgasburg vendor Mighty Quinn’s is bringing its barbecue to the Whole Foods at Houston & the Bowery starting today and lasting through Jan. 31 as part of the grocery store’s collaboration with the Brooklyn Flea. You’ll be able to get pulled pork shoulder, edamame and sweet pea salad, sweet potato casserole and a smoked turkey breast that will be exclusive to the Bowery location (there’s a brick and mortar shop in the East Village). It’s a bit outside of the traditional Downtown Lunch boundaries, but given the lack of good BBQ in these parts, it might be worth walking a few extra blocks. Photo courtesy of the Brooklyn Flea.

I’ve had my eye on the Fishing Shrimp truck, which has shown up in Midtown and also one day a week in Soho while otherwise parking in Brooklyn and other parts of Manhattan. The truck’s premise is simple – fry a couple of types of seafood and serve them in a basket or sandwich, with fries if you choose. It’s nice that they didn’t try to throw in some other influence (cough, cough, Korean food) as many trucks do to varied success. But if you’re only serving fried seafood, you’d better do it well.
