The opening day of Go Go Curry on John St. (btw. Nassau & Broadway), the Japanese chain with more than 50 locations world wide, was a bit of a mess. I discovered when I got in line that they weren’t doing take out on Monday and you could only get the 55 cent deal if you had a good hour to wait to eat in the small space that has only a few tables and a counter along one wall. Instead, I went back on Tuesday when you could get your food to go, and to my surprise found you could get any medium size curry for $5 – a special running through Feb. 28. The staff was still working out some kinks, with a wait of about 20 minutes for food and a cash only policy, but after I finally got to eat my pork katsu curry, it was totally worth the confusion and waiting.  Read more »

Broadway & Nassau) on Monday at 10:55 a.m. If you’re one of the first 555 people in line you’ll be able to pay in change 55 cents!) if you get a single size curry. Otherwise, you’ll still pay less than $10 unless you have a hunger that can only be sated by a Grand Slam.

You have a couple of weeks to get excited about Go Go Curry opening in the Financial District on John St. (btw. Broadway & Nassau). We got word that there will be some specials on opening day, Feb. 25 at 10:55 a.m., with the first 555 orders of single size curry going for 55 cents. And you get five topping coupons! Other good news for you late workers or people who actually live in the area – it looks like they’ll be open until 9:55 p.m.

Get your sweatpants ready because the new location of Go Go Curry on John St. has announced an opening date. You’ll be able to get Japanese curry in sizes ranging from reasonable to insane starting on Feb. 25, according to a press release. The newest location has been dubbed the “World Trade Center stadium” as it’s a couple of blocks away from that building site on John between Broadway & Nassau. I’m already anticipating a solid food coma.

If you’ve walked down John St. off of Broadway in the past couple of weeks, it was probably hard to miss this banner marking the new location of Go Go Curry hanging from scaffolding in front of where Cajun Maggie’s used to be. The block has become slightly less awful as plywood came down from the Fulton Transit Station construction on the corner, and it’s nice to see a new lunch spot going into one of the many empty storefronts.

Tip of the hat to luncher Daniel who tipped us off to the announcement of the where the exact location of the third NYC installment of Go Go Curry will be. An initial blast on the restaurant’s Facebook page said it would be near the World Financial Center, but a post on their blog tells a different story.

Do you like giant platters of fried meat with Japanese curry gravy and rice? And do you occasionally want to eat something called a Grand Slam that doesn’t come from Denny’s? If the answer to these questions is “Yes!” get ready to get excited because Midtown institution Go Go Curry has announced on Facebook that it’s opening a third location somewhere near the World Financial Center. That could mean Battery Park City or somewhere in Tribeca…or actually in the WFC. At this point, details are scarce other than it’s opening early in 2013. We can only hope that they bring the eating contest and free anniversary toppings with them.
