PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “DeShaun”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have DeShaun who discovered the joys of giant parm sandwiches from a truck from this site and likes cheap tacos.

Name: DeShaun Craddock

Occupation: Research analyst

Where you work: Corner of William & John streets

Age: 28

Favorite kinds of food: Italian, Thai, sushi, Mexican

Least favorite foods: Shellfish

Favorite lunches downtown: I absolutely adore Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane (btw. William & Gold) for their suadero and puerco tacos when they’re $2 on Tuesdays and their tortas; Caruso’s Pizza & Pasta on Fulton (btw. Nassau & Broadway) for a quick slice; Lemongrass Grill on William St. (at Maiden) for chicken pad thai and Thai iced tea.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Zeytuna on Maiden Lane (at William), or Chickpea on John St. (nr. William).

Places downtown you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: Downtown? All American Diner I & II Truck. I went on a search for this place after reading about it. Worth the walk!

Dream job location, purely for lunch purposes, and why: Chinatown! So many cheap eats in one place: Big Wong on Mott (btw. Canal & Bayard), New Malaysia on Bowery (nr. Elizabeth), a slew of food carts and my favorite tea place, Teariffic on Mott (btw. Pell & Bayard).

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch: Downtown readers?: What kind of food do you think is underrepresented downtown?

I’m going to go with good Thai food, because other than Bennie’s Thai on Fulton (at Gold) and a couple of others it’s dismal south of Houston St. And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at downtown@midtownlunch.com.

  • I gotta agree about the lack of Thai food. I’ll say Indian is fairly underrepresented too (though we have Pakistani and other similar cuisines).
