Maine Lobster Gazpacho is Back at the Oyster Bar!

Oyster Bar at Grand Central

Last month I had the chance to check out most of the offerings from Grand Central’s Oyster Bar take out window with some of the ML crew. Their soup offerings were the surprise hit of the lunch and this week I discovered that the Maine Lobster Gazpacho is back in rotation.

Pizza by Cer Te Finally Opening Today

It’s been almost a full year since we first reported that Cer Te (on 56th btw. 5+6th) would be opening Manhattan’s first “green” pizzeria.  And after a whole lot of waiting, the day is finally here… Pizza by Cer Te (on 56th btw. Park+Lex) will open to the public today.  We’re guessing it will be similar to the pizza at Cer Te, but the new spot will have far more choices and some brand new items like socca (a gluten free chick pea flatbread), “bakers” (whatever that is) and a list of sandwiches as well.  Check out the entire menu here.

We’ve never really posted about “preview” parties (it’s never a good representation of what the food will be like for us real folks), but if you just can’t wait any longer to see the inside of the place or photos of free samples of pizza, Chubby Chinese Girl (yes, that Chubby Chinese Girl) went to their friends and family party on Tuesday night and posted her report here. Looks pretty damn good, but we’re more interested in hearing how it is today!  Early adopters, let us know what you think in the comments…

Free Coffee Alert: In honor of Earth Day tomorrow (4/22), Oren's Daily Roast (in Midtown on 51st and 3rd Ave.) will be giving away free coffee to anybody who brings in a regular mug or resusable travel mug from 10am - closing.   The deal is good at all locations except Grand Central, because they only sell beans. Midtown East freeloaders... don't forget your mugs tomorrow.

Contributor Stalking (The “Butchered Goat” Edition)

Do you wonder what our new ML contributors do when they’re not eating lunch in Midtown? (They’re actually pretty easy to stalk!)

Pork belly taco from Cabrito, photo courtesy of ultraclay

After watching a goat get butchered at Cabrito, Ultraclay hung out and enjoyed some of their tacos. According to Brownie the veggie burger at Alias, in the Lower East Side, is better than their pulled pork. Amy hit up the new brick and mortar location of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. Finally, we hope Danny from Food in Mouth gets home soon! He was stuck in France because of the volcanic ash.

Carnegie John’s Cart is Back!: Thanks to Lunch'er "closedfist" for this one... Carnegie John, the great burger and Greek street meat cart on 56th and 7th Ave., is back after some licensing issues that have now been cleared up. And just in time for Street Meat Palooza 3!

Bann Next Door’s Lunch Specials Worth Every Penny

Bann Next Door lunch specials!

Last week, we were tipped off by Lunch’er Jennie that Bann, the pricey Korean restaurant on 50th St. btw. 8th+9th (in Worldwide Plaza) opened a casual takeout counter called “Bann Next Door” at the same address. (Bann just blocked off a corner of their existing space and packed in four tables.) One look at the menu and we knew we had to go back. $6.95 soy BBQ pork spare ribs or honey chili glazed Korean fried chicken? With empty stomachs and high expectations, we ordered one of every main item on the menu.

See the Korean feast – takeout style – after the jump.

Twitter Tracker: Twitter might be blocked at your work, but the ML Twitter Tracker can't be stopped! The Treats Truck will be a little late to 45th because of more Food Network stuff, but Frites N Meats is on 48th, Cupcake Stop is on 50, Schnitzel is in the Flatiron, Street Sweets is on 52nd, and Rickshaw is in Columbus Circle with "special" dumplings.

Get Indus Express Chaat for 8 Cents

8 cent Pop Burgers are fine, but this is kind of more exciting if you ask us!  A week from today 8 Coupons will be having another one of their Ocho Loco events, and the participating restaurant is Indus Express (on 48th btw. 5+6th).  On April 28th, from 2-6pm you can get a plate of their formidable chaat for just 8 cents.  If you’ve never had chaat before, it’s Indian street food made from some kind of fried item (samosas, cracker looking things, and/or rice crispy looking things) tossed with onions, tomatoes sometimes potatoes, yogurt, and chutney.  It’s the perfect summertime snack/lunch and all you have to do to score it for 8 cents is text yourself the coupon from the 8coupons site. Freeloaders engage.  (Because, quite frankly at 8 cents it might as well be free, right?)

Us Ladies Get Our Own “Mister Softee” Vendor (and His Name is “Billy Gunnz”)

DSC00008

All the guys seemed pretty excited to read about the Ladies of Queen Frostine last year.  Well, this one is for the ladies! Yesterday Miss Softee (aka Profiled Lunch’er “Chrissy”) and I hit midtown for some lunching action, and for “dessert” she took me to visit one of the newest ice cream vendors to hit twitter, her pal “Billy Gunnz”.  He’s a midtown Mister Softee vendor, and has started to get quite the rep for flashing those guns (and pecs).

A shirtless shot of Mr. Gunnz (you know… for us ladies) is after the jump. Read more »
