Thai Lunch Specials at Spice 28

Sakura Mandarin is a favorite Chinatown spot of mine, so I was excited to check out the new, more fusiony restaurant by the same guys. While Sakura has sushi and Mandarin style food, Spice 28 has Szechuan and Thai food. With its trendy decor and slightly higher prices, would I still be impressed by the food?

Asking for the Chinese Menu from China King, and Don’t let Nicholas Cage Hit You On the Way Out

China King is one of the many Chinese restaurants in China town that have separate menus, the American friendly menu and the more authentic menu (here, FuZhou style). Be clear that you want both menus.

Inside, the finishings are pretty sparse. Our waitress was both over and under attentive. Our waters were not refilled yet she  kept hovering over us while we told her we needed more time to order. It is all about the food though, we had some things that pleased, others that did not.

Asian Fusion Garden Thai & Noodle Bar Opens This Weekend

Asian Fusion Garden Thai & Noodle Bar, whose name adequately conveys its menu, is opening tomorrow. The menu is divided into two sides, one being the Chinese side with  Lan Zhou hand pulled noodles,BBQ skewers, hot pot, and smoothies, and the other side consisting of Thai food, with curries, more noodles, and chicken lunch specials. The hand pulled noodle chef was formally cooking in Chicago’s Chinatown, while another chef works on the Thai stuff. Prices are a few dollars higher than what you might find in Chinatown; hand drawn noodle soups range from $7-$10. Looking forward to seeing if its worth it!

Happy Restaurant’s $2 Snacks and Sticky Meatballs

It was less the name, and more so the pictures of giant congee bowls that drew me in to Happy Restaurant for lunch. The menu, a one page paper print out, features dim sum-like snacks, all ranging from 50 cents to $4.50. I always enjoy a lunch made up of a few different little things, so I was all about it.

3 Meats is the Right Amount at M Kee

M Kee opened last fall in Chinatown with a noodley and roast meat filled menu. The entrance shows off all the roast delicacies, so I couldn’t begin to think about ordering anything other than meat over rice.  Although I was warned that 2 meats were enough for me, I had to push it to the limit and order 3.
