Need One Last Seafood Lunch For Lent? Try Sophie’s Fried Fish + Crack Sauce

The pernil and other meaty products from Sophie’s Cuban (Multiple Locations) get most of the attention, but they also offer a few seafood options on their daily menu, and a couple of special dishes on Fridays. If you want to get lunch for less than $10, the fried fish special will not only fill you up, but it’s pretty good if you make one important addition.

Sophie’s Combo Deals Only Exist At One Downtown Location

Tip of the hat to Lunch’er Justin who wrote in to tell us that the location of Sophie’s Cuban on New St. in the Financial District no longer had its under $10 sandwich combo that included a sandwich, side and soda, and now if you order all of those things it will run roughly $14. Well what about the other two downtown locations on Chambers St. and Fulton St.? You probably won’t be happy to hear that only one of those three locations will still hook you up with this deal.

Battle Of The FiDi Pernil: Sophie’s Cuban Vs. Lane Cafe

A couple of weeks ago while alerting you all that Sophie’s Cuban was now selling its legendary green sauce I realized something shameful: I have never eaten at Sophie’s. Sure, I’ve had roast pork from other downtown spots like the West Side Coffee Shop on the fringe of Tribeca, and at the Roxy, but Sophie’s eluded me. Sophie’s On Chambers Selling Crack-Like Green Sauce For Home Consumption

P1000109

I know the green sauce at Sophie’s holds a special place in a lot of your pernil-clogged hearts, so good news! Now you can buy jars of it for $5.99 and pour it on whatever you want in the comfort of your own home or office. The sign was only in the window at the location on Chambers St. (at Church), and not the one on Fulton St. Maybe now we can finally know what’s in this stuff?

Downtown Lunch: Getting Pernil With a Twist from the Downtown Sophie's

Midtown workers shouldn’t have all the fun, so to even the score, I’ve brought on Daniel Krieger as an official Downtown Lunch Correspondent to write up some of the tasty stuff you can get in the lower half of Manhattan. He’s a great photographer (ensuring good food porn), but more importantly he is a lover of cheap, unique and delicious eats (or as I like to call it- Midtown Lunch’ish food.) This week Daniel hits up the Downtown location of a place we are all familiar with in Midtown: Sophie’s Cuban.

SOPHIES CUBANs

Sometimes all ya gotta do is ask. I have to admit that I’ve been quite jealous the past month or so, watching all these great new sandwiches go through the pages of Midtown Lunch. That duck pastrami sandwich made me insanely jealous and then when I saw the Pernil with a Twist, I knew I had to do something. I called up the downtown location of Sophie’s Cuban and asked if they made it… to which they obviously had no clue because Downtown gets no love!

That was about to change.
