Mighty Quinn’s Whole Foods Pop Up Is Worth A Lunchtime Detour

When word came of a pop up in Downtown Lunch territory from Smorgasburg barbeque favorite Mighty Quinn’s, I put it on my “to eat” list. It wasn’t on there for long as I hit it up late last week to try it out before the BBQ purveyor is replaced at the beginning of February. It’s a short menu on offer, but if you like smoked and barbequed meats, you may want to walk a couple of extra blocks for lunch.

FiDi’s Goodburger Being Replaced…With More Burgers

clarke's

Earlier this week Lunch’er Jamie wrote in to say that the Goodburger on Maiden Lane (at Pearl) which has been closed since hurricane Sandy was gone and being replaced by…another burger shop. Lo and behold, something called Clarke’s Standard is going in there, with paper in the windows promising freshly ground burgers and homemade sausage. It looks like another location of Goodburger in Midtown is making the same switch so either they’re owned by the same company, or Clarke’s Standard is just picking off faltering burger joints. Watch your back Five Guys!

Courthouse Worker Favorite Paulie’s Place Set To Close

You all have been good with the tips this week, but one from Lunch’er Chris brought some not great news about Paulie’s Place on Baxter St. (btw. Walker & White).

Just as an FYI – Paulie’s Place, a go-to cheap sandwich place on Baxter that serves many of the people who work in the downtown courthouses, has a sign at the counter indicating it will be closing “indefinitely” on Friday due to the rising cost of doing business.

In true Chinatown fashion, people online testify that you could get sandwiches and burgers for $3 or $4 and it was fast and tasty. Did any of you eat here regularly?

Comme Ci Comme Ca’s at Old Slip: Truck options today include Milk Truck, Frites N Meats, Souvlaki GR and Taim at the WFC lot, Toum at Wall & Water, and Comme Ci Comme Ca at Old Slip & Water. Up in Soho, Sweetery and Hibachi Heaven are at Hudson & King and Kimchi Taco's at Hudson & Charlton.
