Midtown Lunch

It took me about four trips to the website of My Belly’s Playlist to figure out what exactly this was. The 10 sandwiches on offer sounded really good and once I discovered through my digging that they were all $10 I got even more interested. But how could I procure one of these delicious beasts? It seemed that delivery was the only option and when co-founder/partner Bo Kim e-mailed later in the week, that was indeed the case. It’s operated out of the Yorganic store at Hanover Sq. & Broad, but you can’t actually order any of the sandwiches while walking in there. Clearly I was going to have to get lazy and let my fingers order up some lunch.

One of the highlights in my year-and-a-half as your guide through the lunches of downtown Manhattan was discovering a $7 all-you-can-eat buffet at the delightfully-named Sea World in the gross upper reaches of Church St. When word came Friday that the place had closed and was possibly being taken over by pizza shop Saluggi’s, I couldn’t stop a “Nooo!” from escaping my mouth. There aren’t a lot of good sources of Philly cheesesteaks in the Financial District or any part of lower Manhattan other than Carl’s Steaks on Chambers St., and no, those things you get from the halal vendors aren’t the real thing. A new truck called Phil’s Steaks is parking in the FiDi today was supposed to come to the FiDi today, but isn’t on the road at all. Although they haven’t been reviewed yet on the Midtown side of the site, it seems like they’re legit and sourcing bread from Philly, etc. A full sandwich is $8.50 or you can get a half for $5.50, and they offer beef or chicken with all of the fixings. There are also some sort of combo meals offered but I can’t find out online what exactly those are. If any of you check it out for lunch, let us know how it was in the comments!

If you work below Chambers St. and can’t handle another day of ordering from Chipotle or wherever people order food from on a regular basis (can you tell I never use Seamless Web?), there’s a new option out there that only exists in delivery form. It’s called My Belly’s Playlist and operates out of Yorganic on Hanover Square, but you can’t actually get the sandwiches offered if you walk in there. I know because I actually tried that and there’s no sign that this underground sandwich source exists, although I was intrigued by those Bliss Bowls being sold there.
