PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “DeShaun”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have DeShaun who discovered the joys of giant parm sandwiches from a truck from this site and likes cheap tacos.

Name: DeShaun Craddock

Occupation: Research analyst

Where you work: Corner of William & John streets

Age: 28

Favorite kinds of food: Italian, Thai, sushi, Mexican

Least favorite foods: Shellfish

Favorite lunches downtown: I absolutely adore Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane (btw. William & Gold) for their suadero and puerco tacos when they’re $2 on Tuesdays and their tortas; Caruso’s Pizza & Pasta on Fulton (btw. Nassau & Broadway) for a quick slice; Lemongrass Grill on William St. (at Maiden) for chicken pad thai and Thai iced tea.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Zeytuna on Maiden Lane (at William), or Chickpea on John St. (nr. William).

Bistro Truck’s Free Turkey Burgers Coming Downtown: You may have heard that Bistro Truck and Jennie-O have partnered up to bring us free "themed" turkey burgers this week and we're getting in on the action. The truck will be at Hudson & King tomorrow with a Mulberry St. burger and at Old Slip & Water Thursday with a Brooklyn-style burger. The free food flows from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and I for one am curious what can be added to ground turkey to emulate Brooklyn.

Taim Mobile Trying Out New Tribeca Spot: The ML Downtown Twitter Tracker brings news that Taim is parking at Church & Lispenard today with spinach jalapeno falafel. Elsewhere, Cupcake Stop is at Varick, Calexico is on Prince and Crisp is on Hudson. Frying Dutchmen is on Water, Comme Ci Comme Ca is on Old Slip and La Cense is on Barclay.

Is Caravelli’s Pizza The Savior Of WFC Lunch Options?

The World Financial Center (and Battery Park City in general) is short on good, cheap lunch options so I’m sure many of you got excited when word got around that Caravelli’s Pizzeria was opening in the food court area. Anticipation built as word got around that one of the owners was Ed McFarland of Ed’s Lobster Bar fame who has a kiosk selling lobster rolls outside. Sure, pizza and seafood are pretty different foods, but how hard can it be to screw up bread, cheese, sauce and the occasional topping? Read more »

Some Trucks Are Taking A Heat Break: According to the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker, it sounds like some trucks aren't coming out today due to the crazy heat. What we do have is Korilla on Front, La Cense Burger on Wall and Eddie's Pizza is on Hudson. Meanwhile, Souvlaki GR and Frying Dutchmen aren't out today.
