Wall St. Burgers Truck Latest To Roam The Streets

Just yesterday I counted three trucks focusing on burgers in a two-block radius, including the newish Wall St. Burgers Truck (the other two were La Cense & GO Burger). Wall St. has been around for a couple of weeks, but ironically they only park in the Financial District a couple of days a week.  Click through for a look at the menu.

Kosher Food Hall Milk Street Cafe Opening Tomorrow

That giant kosher place Milk Street Cafe that popped up in the old Mangia space on Wall St. (at William) nearly a year ago is opening its doors tomorrow. They’re having a ceremony and giving out free cookies and coffee from 10 to 11 a.m. and will be open for lunch afterward. Regular hours are 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. except for Fridays when they close at 3:30 p.m. Based on a press preview a couple of weeks ago it looks way better than most generic delis down here and should be a great destination for all you vegetarians out there.

Fro-Yo, Korean Grinders Today: It's hot out there, and you can find Joyride on Hudson St. if you're in SoHo. Also on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker, Big D's is also on Hudson, Wafels & Dinges truck is at Hanover Sq. and has a cart on Greenwich and Gorilla Cheese is on Varick. Bian Dang is at Coenties Slip, Korilla BBQ is on Gouverneur & Front and Red Hook Lobster is at Varick. Also, no Frying Dutchmen today.

Perpetually Mobbed Souvlaki GR Truck Has One Line You Won’t Mind Waiting In

Lately the number of trucks parking in the lower part of the Financial District has ratcheted up a notch as more and more encounter parking problems in midtown. It’s only a matter of time before this starts happening on the few blocks where trucks can park down here, but until then we can enjoy more diverse lunch options. From the look of it, you lunchers have fully embraced the Souvlaki GR Truck which is almost always parked on Old Slip (off of Water St.). So why did it take so long for me to go review it? Well, because the line is always 10 deep when I walk by and sometimes my stomach doesn’t have the patience for that kind of wait. Then came a day when I wasn’t ravenously hungry come lunch time and decided to brave the line.  Read more »

Tribeca Taco Truck Out And About: On the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker today there's Cupcake Crew and Big D's at Hanover Sq., Korilla BBQ and Taim Mobile are on Varick, and Souvlaki GR is at Old Slip. It's $2 taco day at Toloache Taqueria, La Cense Burgers is on Barclay and Tribeca Taco Truck is out on Broadway & Spring. Cupcake Stop is at both Maiden Lane and Varick St.

PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Connie”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Connie who isn’t afraid of a little fat in her lunch, and looking for help finding a certain dessert.

Name: Connie

Occupation: City planner

Where you work: The Equitable Building, 120 Broadway

Age: Of age

Favorite Kinds of Food: My likes have been described as “full-flavored, full-fatted” foods. Notably: Cheese, Korean food, ice cream, summer fruits, real Mexican food (not burritos) and also pretty much anything in a corn tortilla covered with cheese & hot sauce.

Least Favorite Foods: Wraps, “fusion” Japanese food (for example – any time a sushi roll has a name like “spider” or “dragon”) and Subway sandwiches, mostly because of that smell – you know the one.

Favorite Lunches Downtown: Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane (btw. Gold & William) for fish tacos or a pork torta; Sophie’s Cuban (Multiple Locations) for goat or oxtail and that killer green sauce; FIKA Swedish Espresso Bar on Pearl (at Coenties Slip) for the shrimp salad sandwich; Takahachi Bakery on Murray (at Church) for the pork sandwich and some pastries. The Korilla BBQ Truck is a new favorite when it’s downtown.
