It’s Shacktoberfest Time!: Shacktoberfest is back and Shake Shack Times Square is celebrating through this Sunday. In addition to the Currywurst, ShackMeister Marinated Cheddar Brats, and German Chocolate Cake concretes like in years past, word on the street is that this year they are serving up a Brat Burger (burger topped w/spilt & griddled Bratwurst & German-style slaw). Early adopters let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Shake Shack Gets First Grand Central Approval: This morning the Shake Shack passed their first hurdle to opening a location in Grand Central, with the second round being on Wednesday. The biggest concern regarding them taking over the Zocalo space? "Potential lines in a congested station." Uh... ya think!? [Eater via DNAinfo]

Shake Shack Grand Central?!!: Word came out late yesterday via Gothamist that Shake Shack is looking to expand their Midtown presence onto the east side. The words "we are interested in exploring the idea of bringing a Shake Shack to Grand Central Terminal" are more than enough to make us do the happy dance. East Siders, keep your fingers crossed.

Get Your Corn Dog on at Shake Shack Today

Shake Shack is kicking off their annual 4th of July celebration early with Corn Dogs ($4.50) and their special Blueberry Pie-Oh-My concrete ($6.50). Their Corn Dogs, which feature Vienna dogs dipped in housemade batter, deep-fried w/Corn Relish, only come around a few times a year and they’re serving them at all Shacks (except Madison Sq, sorry Flatiron!) today through Monday. Unfortunately the Corn Dog plus concrete will take you a buck over the ML, but as a pie concrete fan (blend a pie slice with custard), I’d wager it’s worth the splurge.

May Means New Custard Flavors at Shake Shack

A new month means a new line up of custard flavors at the Shake Shack (on 8th Ave. and 44th). Today’s flavor is Formage Blanc with Raspberry Swirl (I’ll admit I’m intrigued…), tomorrow, Thin Mint, Mud Pie (Fri), with Strawberry Blonde on Monday and Cinnamon Almond Dulce on Tuesday. If you happen to be in the Shack’s vicinity over the weekend they’re doing Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel on Saturdays and Red Velvet on Sundays.

Lent Lunch: What If You Don’t Like Fish?

DSC00009

These past few weeks of Lent I’ve been giving recs for fish lunches for those who are observing and eschewing meat. Fried fish sandwiches are always a popular option and the new Shark and Bake sandwich from Trini Paki looks like a good option if you’re able to get there early, but what if you don’t like fish? Enter my go-to meatless option at the Shake Shack: The ‘Shroom Burger.

March Custard Madness (Plus a Car-Mallow Shake) at the Shack

A new month means a new line up of custard flavors at the Shake Shack (on 8th Ave. and 44th). Today’s flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip, tomorrow, Coffee & Donuts, with Chocolate Chuckles (Mon), Banana Bread (Tues), and Pineapple Nut Brittle (Wed) rounding out the week. If you happen to be in the Shack’s vicinity over the weekend they’re doing Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel on Saturdays and Afternoon Tea on Sundays. And from now until Sunday, 3/13 you can get the CAR-MALLOW ANTHONY SHAKE, vanilla custard with caramel, marshmallow and malt. ($5.75)

Not All Shake Shacks Are Created Equal: Food super genius J Kenji Lopez-Alt did a taste test of all the Manhattan Shake Shacks for A Hamburger Today and declared the Midtown location the strangest. Apparently they don't smash the patty as much, making for a much thicker burger than the other Shake Shack locations.

December Custard Calendar is Very XMas-ey: A new month means a new line up of custard flavors at the Shake Shack (on 8th Ave. and 44th). There's Candy Cane Crunch (Fri), Gingerbread (Sat), Spiced Apple Cider (Sun), Eggnog (Mon), Figgy Pudding (Tues), Panettone (Weds), and today’s flavor: Chocolate Orange Chestnut Swirl. The Gingerbread custard is quite good, too bad it's only on Saturdays. Bah humbug.

Take That Shake Shack: When Shake Shack opened their new Midtown location on 8th Ave. we thought it was going to be bad news for Schnipper's Quality Kitchen. Not at all says the owners, and to prove how not effected they are by the Shack the Schnipper's Bros have decided to open a 2nd location across the park from the original Shake Shack. Good luck with that!
