The ABC Pang is An Elusive Little Sammie

Three months after the Italian sausage fest that was the Batali Pang, one of our favorite sandwich shops, Num Pang, has launched the second in their series of specialty sandwiches called “Guest Chefs Give Back,” with proceeds going to a different charity (and I’m not talking about my stomach). The ABC Pang is a collaboration with Dan Kluger and Jean-Georges Vongerichten of ABC Kitchen. I’ve had two pretty amazing meals at that locavore, vegetable-friendly restaurant so I was so excited when the news of this sandwich was announced last week.

“ABC Pang” Launches at Num Pang Tomorrow

Remember the Batali Pang, the first in what was supposed to be a series of special Num Pang sandwiches designed by famous chefs for charity.  Well, according to Grub Street the second in the series of collaborations launches tomorrow. The “ABC Pang” ($9.25), created by Jean-Georges and Dan Kluger, features chicken salad with Thai basil, jalapeños, chile mayonnaise, and lime, topped with crispy chicken skin (!) and spicy cashew butter, spiked with Thai chiles and candied ginger and will benefit the Edible Schoolyard Project and the Double H Ranch. Can’t wait to get this masterpiece in my belly!

Num Pang’s Batali Pang Gets Us Excited For the Next Celebrity Sandwich

As posted last month (and printed here in the store), Cambodian Sandwich shop Num Pang started serving the Batali Pang last month, a special sandwich designed by Molto Mario himself. Served only until March 15th, the proceeds from the sandwich sales go to a Cambodian children’s charity and the Food Bank. With less than ten days left before the sandwich is gone forever, I stopped in to check it out.

“Batali Pang” To Hit Num Pang Next Week

Last week Grub Street broke the news that Num Pang would be launching a new program called “Guest Chefs Give Back”, featuring limited edition sandwiches created by famous chefs for charity.  Well, the first new sandwich will hit the menu on Wednesday courtesy of Mario Batali.  The “Batali Pang” (as it’s being called) will cost $9.75, and proceeds will be divided equally between Chef Batali’s cause, Food Bank For New York City and Ratha Chaupoly and Ben Daitz’s cause, The Cambodian Children’s Fund.

But what exactly is the Batali Pang going to be?! Try cotecchino sausage by Brooklyn Bangers with balsamic pickled onions and Cacio de Roma cheese, folded into the traditional Num Pang ingredients – homemade chili mayo, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro and served on a toasted semolina flour baguette.  It will be available at all Num Pang locations from February 15th through March 15th.

Num Pang’s Tofu Sandwich is Surprisingly Good

Num Pang

Yes, I know, tofu. It’s worse than just vegetarian. I went to Num Pang (41st btw 3rd+Lex) preparing to try their roasted fig and bacon, or even the roasted turkey. Unfortunately roasted fig wasn’t on the menu–not sure if it’s completely off or not–and they were out of roasted turkey for the day. And seeing how it is the holidays and I have this thing about eating every holiday cookie I can get my hands on, I went with the tofu over the spare rib. And I wasn’t disappointed!

Num Pang Launches Their Fall Specials

Num Pang (which has a Midtown location on 41st btw. Lex+3rd) recently unveiled its new Fall specialty items, so naturally I hightailed it over to check them out. I set my sights on the Roasted Fig sandwich ($8.25 + tax): Kadota figs, chilis, bacon, chili mayo and the usual veggie suspects of cucumber, pickled carrots, and cilantro.

Num Pang Adds New Sandwich & Turkey Wings

Num Pang

At some point last week, Num Pang (on 41st btw Lex+3rd) began doing the ol’ switcheroo on their menu. Thanks to Lunch’er Aaron for tipping us off to the fact that the grilled peach sandwich got a short extension, and they’ve added a new boneless pork spareribs sandwich and a maple barbecue turkey wings platter (with black pepper rice and a spicy papaya slaw) to the menu. I went for the sandwich…

Less Than a Month Left to Try Num Pang’s Grilled Peach Sandwich

Num Pang Ever since Ultraclay’s post on Num Pang, I’ve kept the idea of checking it out in the back of my head. But as usual I either forgot about it or was just never in the mood for a Cambodian sandwich… that is until Serious Eats: NY tried all of the sandwiches and declared the peach one the best. Really?! A peach sandwich?! I have had the five spice pork belly sandwich before at their Union Square shop and liked it a lot. So for them to say that a peach sandwich was better, I quickly made my way to the sandwich shop to try it for myself.
