Num Pang Adds New Sandwich & Turkey Wings
At some point last week, Num Pang (on 41st btw Lex+3rd) began doing the ol’ switcheroo on their menu. Thanks to Lunch’er Aaron for tipping us off to the fact that the grilled peach sandwich got a short extension, and they’ve added a new boneless pork spareribs sandwich and a maple barbecue turkey wings platter (with black pepper rice and a spicy papaya slaw) to the menu. I went for the sandwich…
I was pretty excited to see what the fuss was about, but for $8.50 plus tax I was expecting a bigger sandwich; it’s about 6 inches long. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in flavor and quality. The tender pork spareribs are chopped up into bite size pieces and slathered in a sweet barbecue sauce before being placed in the sandwich. They do give a generous amount of meat, which I completely appreciated. I also like that Num Pang uses the same crunchy vegetables as those found in a banh mi: grated carrots, sliced cucumbers, and lots of cilantro. The tamarind glaze isn’t too high on the spicy scale, and adds a nice citrusy kick. My only qualm is that this may not be enough to fill you up for the afternoon.
