Num Pang Adds New Sandwich & Turkey Wings

Num Pang

At some point last week, Num Pang (on 41st btw Lex+3rd) began doing the ol’ switcheroo on their menu. Thanks to Lunch’er Aaron for tipping us off to the fact that the grilled peach sandwich got a short extension, and they’ve added a new boneless pork spareribs sandwich and a maple barbecue turkey wings platter (with black pepper rice and a spicy papaya slaw) to the menu. I went for the sandwich…

Spareribs Sandwich

I was pretty excited to see what the fuss was about, but for $8.50 plus tax I was expecting a bigger sandwich; it’s about 6 inches long. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in flavor and quality. The tender pork spareribs are chopped up into bite size pieces and slathered in a sweet barbecue sauce before being placed in the sandwich. They do give a generous amount of meat, which I completely appreciated. I also like that Num Pang uses the same crunchy vegetables as those found in a banh mi: grated carrots, sliced cucumbers, and lots of cilantro. The tamarind glaze isn’t too high on the spicy scale, and adds a nice citrusy kick. My only qualm is that this may not be enough to fill you up for the afternoon.

  • that is why you need to get a side. if the wings are as good as the ribs were, i’ll have to check it out.

  • When I got my rib sandwich the other day, it wasn’t chopped up. Instead, it was long pieces of pork rib meat. It was pretty hefty. It would definitely be enough to leave one satisfied without being overly full. However, I was able to down another sandwich (pork belly) right away.
