First Look: Lunchers Weigh in on Danku

 Danku

Yesterday, dutch kroket chain Danku opened their first chain in the United States on 57th street just east of 6th Avenue.  I was pretty excited, not only because they serve krokets (fried balls of stuff) but they also have “Indonesian” items like curry, satays, fried rice and noodles.  (The Dutch occupied Indonesia until WW2, so that explains the connection.)  After visiting Bali a few years ago, I got to love Indonesian food; and while I wasn’t expecting the real thing- I was hoping it would at least be to Indonesian food what Panda Express is to Chinese (i.e. tasty!)

The dishes we tried, after the jump…

Danku is Officially Open

Huzzah!  Posted in the comments, and confirmed with a phone call… Danku, the Dutch fast food company that sells krokets (balls of fried stuff) and Indonesian food (satays, noodles, and rice) is officially open as of this morning.  They’re located on 57th just East of 6th Ave., and Happy Hour contributor Mamacita is right on the money with her comment about the sound you may be hearing right now: it’s “the sound of Zach running out the door…”

Here is a copy of the menu.

Danku Update: "Are you guys opening today?" "No, sorry.  You call every morning don't you!" "Yes, yes I do. Do you know when you're opening?" "Sorry, we were supposed to find out yesterday- but we didn't. They said maybe we would find out today." "Sounds good.  Talk to you tomorrow morning." Me... want... kroket.

Danku Update: Here's the latest re: Danku, the dutch kroket and Indonesian fast food place opening on 57th btw. 5+6th.  Called yesterday (Thursday): "We may open tomorrow, but if not then definitely on Monday." Called this morning (Friday): "We're hoping to open middle of next week."  Duly noted... I may still walk by on Monday.

Danku Not Just Krokets; New Chain Will Also Serve Indonesian Fast Food

Danku

Danku, the new Dutch fast food restaurant coming to Midtown (on 57th btw. 5+6th) is just a few weeks away from opening.  On friday the store was abuzz with employees being trained, and it looks as if everything is pretty much done on the inside.  They also have a full menu posted in the window, and it’s even better than I expected.  In addition to their fried “krokets” they are also going to have “Indonesian specialties” like chicken satay, two stews, MieDan (fried noodles) and PadiDan (fried rice).  I’m a huge fan of Indonesian food, and if their MieDan and PadiDan (stupid names aside) are even halfway decent versions of mie goreng and nasi goreng, I will be a very happy man.
