The 2012 People’s Choice Vendy Winner The Cinnamon Snail Truck is back on the road after a couple weeks off for repairs. Among other things the truck got a new engine and transmission. Besides the lost days on the road, those fixes add up to a whole lot of doughnuts. For their second day back they’ll be hitting their Friday midtown spot on 47th and Park and will be bringing some super special treats (homemade Peppermint Patties, maple pecan Rice Krispie Treats, white chocolate cream filled twinkies, and espresso chocolate twinkies) along with their winter menu which has some seasonal items totally worth checking out. In case you haven’t heard two of midtown’s own have been named Vendy’s cup finalists. We’ve been raving about Uncle Gussy’s for ages and while the Cinnamon Snail Truck has been on our radar since they hit New York last December (we just reviewed their awesome fig pancake special), it seemed high time to give them the official ML +/-. We’re still waiting to find out who’s up for the Dessert, Rookie, and the new Market category of the Vendy Awards. But earlier this week, the excitement for the big day increased with the announcement of the six competitors in the Vendy Cup Award. While only one will be the official winner, this competition is really more a celebration of the vendors and their stories, commitment, and delicious food. Every year the nominees get their own official video documentary. This year they’ve all been produced by our friend Liza de Guia from Food Curated. I love pancakes. I could eat pancakes every day and without getting bored. In my experience, good pancakes aren’t the easiest thing to find in midtown. Fortunately the Cinnamon Snail has been making midtown a regular stop, they always have two pancake options on the menu, and right now one of those pancake options is their seasonal fresh fig pancakes with chamomile blood orange syrup and pine nut butter. When I was interviewing Chef Adam from the Cinnamon Snail for our upcoming street food book, Chef Adam mentioned these pancakes as one of his very favorite dishes from the truck. When I saw that fig pancakes were back on the menu as of this week, naturally I had to check it out.

The Cinnamon Snail, which was parked on 21st and 5th today, is debuting several new menu items this week. The breakfast crowd can now get Blackberry Amaranth (a grain similar to rice) pancakes topped by honeysuckle syrup, with lunch getting four new items like Applewood Smoked Tempeh and a Gochujang Burger Deluxe. They also now have iced coffee that can come in two flavors: mint chocolate or with star anise-spiced coconut milk. The truck is heading downtown tomorrow, but should be in Midtown West on Wednesday and Midtown East on Friday. Spring is officially here, which means that the Cinnamon Snail is now back on the road for their first full season in New York. The Snail only got their permits in order at the very end of 2011, but they’ve already had successful lunches in both midtown and downtown. They spent their last lunch of the season in the Flatiron and they’ll be picking up where they left off in the Flatiron today with plans to hit both Midtown East and Midtown West later this week. For those of you eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Cinnamon Snail Truck, here’s some just in news from Chef Adam: “After two full years, finally The Cinnamon Snail food truck is fully permitted for NYC. We will be serving many neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn starting this Thursday 12/8/11 with an appearance for brunch and lunch in Midtown West.
