SPEAKING OF COLD SOUP: Milant (38th btw. Lex+3rd) has started serving their summertime gazpacho.  It's $1 more to get it as the soup that comes with your sandwich, but in the words of Lunch'er Dan who emailed me the news- it is "so necessary."

LUNCHERS TURN OUT TO SUPPORT MILANT: In the comments re: Milant, which was closed by the DOH on Friday. "Just went to the newly re-opened Milant: line out the door. I love seeing the community rally behind a great place like that. Though, I’ve never gotten offered any cheese crunchies.  Sidenote: I find the comment shilling for Cafe Trends hilarious. Do you think the gross misspellings are intentional?"

Rickshaw Dumpling Truck Coming to Midtown: Eater has the totally unconfirmed rumor/scoop overheard in some restaurant that the Rickshaw Dumpling Bar (with two locations in lower Manhattan) is planning on dispatching a truck to Midtown.  While I admit that RDB is no [insert favorite 5 for $1.25 Chinatown Dumpling place here], Midtown is a very dumpling starved part of town, and that truck will be welcomed with open arms.  [Eater]

OUT OF BOUNDS EAST FROYO: A new Pinkberry is opening Friday on 54th St. & 2nd Ave. "First Swirl" is at 11:30am.  [MrGeneko Flickr]

NO JOE IN GRAND CENTRAL: The new location of Joe and the Art of Coffee was supposed to open inside Grand Central today, but has been postponed until June 9th due to "unforeseen construction issues".  I'm not a serious coffee drinker (9 years in Boston makes me a DunkinD iced coffee kind of a guy), but I would imagine this is important news for those who are... BAGELFELLER GOES DOH!: This straight from the M.L. Inbox: "The DOH must be cracking down on the 48th St. places.  Bagelfeller has a closed DOH sign up as well..."  Don't pretend to be surprised.  That place looks dirty, smells dirty and at one time they served something called a "banana roll" in their pre-made sushi section.  Wrong on so many levels...

CHOCOLATE/COFFEE: (Forgive the shameless self promotion, but this shit is good!)  Check out these espresso filled chocolates I wrote about for the newly launched Serious Eats: New York. They're available at Macchiato Espresso Bar on 44th btw. Lex+3rd.  It's not my favorite place in the world, from a Midtown Lunch'ing standpoint, but damnit if these chocolates aren't the perfect afternoon pick me up. [SE:NY]

ASK MIDTOWN LUNCH: CORN DOGS: From the Inbox:  "My co-worker and I have been desperately trying to find a place that’s not a Gray’s Papaya to get a corn dog in the general Rockefeller area. Can you help us out?"  Yeah.  Can you help us out.  Comments please... (I love corn dogs too.)

MIDTOWN COMPETITIVE EATING: If you can take a long lunch tomorrow (Tuesday), the Nintendo Store in Rock Center is the place to be as Crazy Legs Conti will take on Tim "Eater X" Janus in a watermelon eating contest to promote the new competitive eating game for the Wii. Event is from Noon to 3pm. [via Gothamist]

FREE FOOD DAY ONLY WORKS IN MIDTOWN?: Posted on Eater about a new falafel place in Union Square: "Dropped by Kosher Village today at 2 for their much-hyped free falafel day. The place was completely empty. I was expecting at least a short wait..." [Eater]
