PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “David”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s David, a production editor who is addicted to noodles and looking for the perfect dosa.

Name: David

Age: 35-ish

Occupation: Production Editor

Where in Midtown do you work? Grand Central-ish

Favorite Kind of Food: Any vehicle for capsicum, like Pad Ki Mao, Ma Po Tofu, Extra red at a falafel cart

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Not a dessert fan. Unless you count Ice Cream as dessert, which I do not.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Margon (on 46th btw. 6+7th) for beans/rice; Wu Liang Ye on 48th btw. 5+6th) for their veg dumplings; Joy Tandoor (on 46th btw Lex+3rd) for 2 veggies, depends on day, always great.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Onya on 47th. It’s quick and easy. I’m addicted to the noodles. Maybe now that summer’s here I’ll be going back less frequently. Maybe not.

Places you have discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? Old school, Bayan Cafe (RIP); New school, Num Pang (on 41st btw. Lex+3rd)

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? SF. I sometimes talk myself into believing that a Sunset Park burrito is a Mission Burrito. But it’s not.

Anything you’d like to ask the midtown lunch readers? I’ve found a few South Indian dosa joints in midtown, but they’re only so-so. Any great ones?

Got an answer for David? Put it in the comments. Want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate)? Email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • FREAK OF THE WEEK

The “Go see Thiru the Dosa Man” edition

  • This is basically all I ever post about on ML anymore but: I go to the Swami Dosa cart on 39th and Bway about once a week. It is okay and very cheap (Masala Dosa, $5) but is is NOT AS GOOD as the Sami Dosa cart that used to park there. The dosas at the Indian Food Newstand on 6th ave and 37th are marginally better, but they take longer and are more expensive ($6.) All of this might be too far West for you though.

  • What the hell does “35-ish” mean? That’s you are somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 years old, but you’re embarrassed about the actual number? Very odd.

    • wtf… I’m guessing that yes, that is the case– but I mean… who cares? This whole nit-picking every damn profile is getting tiresome.

  • Whyya gotta ruin the dudes game rob? 35ish for the ladies….geez…

Onya is a restaurant for all seasons. Winter = hot udon. Summer = cold udon.

  • Dosas are awesome! Not going to find too many great options in Midtown though unless you explore Curry Hill.

44 Curry House and Minar is only okay for Dosas. Carts mentioned above be cheaper.

  • Where is the link to your blog? I mean…you can’t be profiled if you don’t have a blog to advertise…right guys?
